My funeral director, Kailyn Wray, really helped me as I made decisions to honor my Mother, Annette Evans Pleszkoch. She was patient when I was indecisive about what flowers to get for the casket, she made helpful suggestions along the way, and she was prompt in answering my questions via email. She kept us organized and let me know what still needed to be done, but understood that some decisions took much more time to make (such as picking out her final outfit and writing the obituary). I was amazed how they set up the room and slideshow for her visitation. I provided the art she had painted, and they displayed it so nicely. Tharp Funeral Home of Lynchburg is a wonderful place to use if you have the misfortune of needing such services. They surpassed my expectations. When I die, I want my family to use this funeral home for my body- that’s how confident I am that this is an excellent place to go.

Tharp Furneral Home is a wonderful caring place. When my mom died earlier this year, they did an excellant job ensuring all our needs were met. They were not pushy and did not rush us to make any decision, instead the funeral home went over all our options, listened to our questions and concerns and helped us make the right arrangements. Great place, caring staff.

The Tharp Funeral Home team recently supported my mother’s homegoing journey. I can’t say enough about how professional, responsive, and respectful O’Tario Wells and the rest of the Tharp team were before, during, and after the funeral service. Every aspect of the process exceeded my expectations and made the grieving process that much easier for me and my family.

I will honestly say my experience with Tharp has been very pleasant. From the first phone call to start the planning process to the day we laid our mother to rest & even after that was outstanding. Our funeral director, Brett Coffey was truly one of a kind. He really helped ease the whole process tremendously. From his kindness & sincerty to his sense of humor really helped us during that difficult time. The other members were truly friendly & comforting as well. Even after that difficult day, they’ve all been a pleasure to work with.

I cant say enough about the Tharp staff...this past year my parents passed away with in 11 months of each other and Ed Breslow handled both and I'm so glad he did....then 3 weeks later my brother in-law and nephew lost there lives in a motor cycle accident. Jessica St. John and Molly Bryant helped my sister with those arrangements...that was one of the most beautiful services I had ever attended... The staff at Tharp are professional...yet personable...you can see the compassion that they have for a family that has lost a loved one... everyone at Tharp that I have had contact with have been so kind and gracious...I can't thank them enough for the care they have taken with my family

Everyone at Tharp Funeral Home has been very professional, courteous, respectful towards my mother and myself the loss of my father. The two ladies, Erica and Jessica, have both been very helpful and empathetic towards everything that we have gone through. We had gone to see them to pre-plan and Erica walked us through the process and answering questions as we had them. Very respectful, courteous and professional. After we lost my father, Jessica sat down with us to discuss how we wanted to proceed with my father's final wishes. She was also very respectful, courteous and professional about everything. 5 Stars to both of those ladies, the gentlemen who moved my father from our home to the funeral home and Tharp Funeral Home!

I have nothing but good things to say about Tharp and everyone there. Unfortunately we’ve had to use them on more than one occasion. For my grandmother, aunt and now father. Murrell has always been amazing, thorough and caring. Most recently, we’ve worked with O’Tario and my family has felt no stress during this hard and trying process. Any question that we have they’re ready and willing to answer, they don’t rush you when you want to spend final moments with your loved one. They truly are so caring and compassionate. Losing a loved one is already hard enough and the last thing you want is to be stressed while making arrangements. In the 3 times I’ve had to use them, my family has felt none of that.I highly recommend Tharp. Everyone there, from the moment you enter the doors are just so kind and loving.

On September 10, 2023, I lost my father, who was also my best friend. He was the husband and soul mate of my mother, and the beloved grandfather of my three young adult children. The five of us cared for my Dad during the final years of his life. He was a man of exceptionally good character, possessing integrity, charm, wit, and an extraordinary sense of humor. Despite his severe physical decline over the last few years of his life, his mind remained clear and sharp until the week that he died. We were able to have some tough but important discussions in the final months of my father's life to learn about his final wishes. Each of us absolutely adored my father...so, as you might imagine, we were committed to making sure that his final arrangements would be as perfect as possible.Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory of Lynchburg made it possible for us to fulfill my father's final wishes and give him the dignified memorial that he very rightfully deserved. Each member of the Tharp staff with whom we had contact was exceptional! They were kind, compassionate, honest, fair, attentive, detail oriented, and committed to fulfilling the vision we had for my father's memorial. They were not pushy, nor did they bombard use with "packages" or hundreds of options, like other funeral homes. They never tried to sell us something that we did not want or did not need. In fact, we were asked to share with them our vision of my father's memorial and then they helped us make that vision a reality using their resources.I must add a special THANKS to Ed Breslow. He was the funeral director assigned to our family. He was the man who made sure things happened exactly as we wanted them to happen, and he did a tremendous job! Ed went above and beyond to honor my father's wishes, our wishes, and to make us as comfortable as possible throughout a profoundly difficult process. We will be eternally grateful to Ed for helping us give my father the dignified send off that he deserved.I simply cannot say enough good things about Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory of Lynchburg. Most funeral homes have become corporate...driven by money, lacking any warmth, and operating with virtually no integrity. If you are looking for a funeral home that is different than most other funeral homes - a funeral home that genuinely cares, works to fulfill your family's wishes, and does not price gouge - then I highly recommend Tharp! Tharp embodies true professionalism, true dignity, and true compassion. They are so much more than a business... They are a ministry, providing care to families who are going through very dark and painful journeys. When the need arises...choose Tharp. There will be no regrets.

Thank you so much for serving my family at the time of my father’s death. The care that your staff took of my father when he passed at 2:18 am touched my heart. Two young men dressed in full suits arrived around 3:30a am and greeted us with such compassion offering their condolences and then took my father away. We walked back in his room and they had carefully made his bed and left a single rose on his pillow. They handled him with such dignity.Everyone at the funeral home were so helpful in walking us through the process. My father looked his best. He appeared to be just sleeping. It was incredibly how well they made him look.I can’t thank you enough for all you did to guide us through this difficult time.Sincerely,Kim Hartless

I used Tharp when my mother passed away. They did a excellent job, they were very professional, detailed and compassionate. I would highly recommend them for any funeral needs. Tharp has continued to check in on me and provide me with any resources I could be interested in having or needing. They have gone above and beyond during the most difficult time in my life.

Losing a loved one is obviously difficult, and that difficulty is compounded when the loss is sudden. When my dad died this past May, we worked with Tharp since they had been so great during my Grandmother's funeral. They were great again during this loss as well. They helped us through an unfamiliar process and provided information that we would otherwise not have received. My siblings and I are so grateful for their presence during that time, and the continued support in checking in on us even after the funeral.

We had 2 funerals within 10 months. Tharp handled my father's funeral and my father in law's funeral with kindness and compassion. Everything went smoothly and they handled all the details, during such a difficult time. Chris and Jessica were excellent and I would recommend Tharp, they were awesome. They even checked on us after the service, they go above and beyond.

Our family has relied on the help of Tharp Funeral Home twice in the past 11 months. Most recently, we lost my mother. Funeral Director David Cook was an immense comfort and help during this difficult time. He anticipated our needs even before we asked. All of our communication was handled in a timely, respectful and sincere manner. If your family is in need of the services of a funeral home at this time, you might want to give Tharp a call. Based on our experience you can trust the care of your loved one to David Cook and the staff.

My husband and I lost our baby girl in the womb at 26 weeks and went through the unbearable experience of having to contact a funeral home to make arrangements. Thorpe was incredible from day 1. They covered our costs for cremation and were amazing to work with in our darkest days. In conversation we mentioned that we were dedicating a pink lily to our little girl and when my husband went to pick her up they had a bouquet of pink lilies for us. They were truly a blessing.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory went out of their way to help me and my family during the toughest time in my life. They were kind, helpful, patient, and accommodating. They even prayed with me when I had to face the unthinkable decisions that come with the loss of someone closest to you. I also appreciated how they never tried to sell me on any service and even offered helpful advice that in no way benefited them. I would recommend them highly to everyone facing a loss as they help take the burden off when your grief-stricken mind is not in a place to handle the many needs facing you in that moment. I will be forever grateful for how they supported me and my family during this time.

Tharp Funeral Home has assisted my family with a few services over the years. They have been nothing short of amazing. They truly care about families and making one of the hardest processes of life, a little bit easier. I will always refer them and use them. Thank you again to all the love and support you gave us during our most recent loss. We are forever grateful.

We were treated with such a high level of dignity and compassion at Tharp Funeral Home after the loss of our baby. Everything was handled with the highest level of efficiency and attention to detail. I really appreciate the follow-up call we receive to check on us after our loss. I simply can't say enough about how wonderful this funeral home is and how well they take care of their customers.

I haven't had a good experience with Tharp Funeral Home & won't recommend them! 10days after my meeting with them regarding my Mother's cremation they were demanding I sign a contract that the Funeral Director neglected to write up prior to the cremation & my Mother being turned over to me! I refused to sign it after the fact because I also was told I would be taken to collections for the bill! I stood my ground that under Code of Va Code 64.2-604 that the Funeral Home could in just over 30days request the funds from my moms bank acct! They dismissed this option until I kept on them about this code! The Funeral Director yelled at me demanded I sign contract. Told me I couldn't have a service for my mom that was included with what she had prepd cemetary. Prepd amt of 700.00 wasnt deducted from the bill until 1200 was actually received from preneed company. This above mentioned code specifically states any payments & any expected payments are to be deducted from the balance. Tharp received the preneed funds & still didnt provide me with a corrected copy of the bill that I had demanded to get for several wks until 1 wk after they got the funds I called once again demanding a corrected copy of the bill. I wanted to be sure it was properly presented to my mother's bank. My mom prepd yrs ago & when she made a minimal salary at mcdonalds that was a struggle for her to pay & I wanted to be sure it was accounted for. I was told more than once that the only way Tharp gets payment is to take the next of kin to collections! Funeral Director verbally agreed to the amt in my moms bank acct & the what at 1st we were told 700.00 she prepd! Not my fault he didnt write up contract in a timely manner. I took supporting documents plus a written statement to Tharp myself it seems as if they ignored it as I had manager put in an email bank requirements as if I was unaware.I requested Bank provide me in writing their requirements to release money to funeral home. I went to the bank myself picked up letter of their requirements to give to Tharp. I would like to know why Tharp Funeral Home was opossed to the Code Of Va Statue & not aware of it! I plan to go before the General Assembly if I am allowed because this should of never happen to me & I want to ensure noone else has this experience when a love 1 dies with no will &no life insurance! My mom had prepd as much as she possibly could. She had the rest in her bank acct it wasnt my responsibilty to pay the balance that would of put a hardship on my family when the Code of Va Statue I presented was an option for us!!! I wasnt treated with compassion at all!!!! My mom was found to be deceased of natural causes but her body was so badly decomposed I couldn't view her at all! I took my mom's death very hard but Tharp made all of this even harder when they refused to listen to me at 1st about this code & refused for wks to correct the itemized statement.

From the initial phone call to the final arrangements, everything was done in a very professional and intimate means. They never made us feel pressured and helped us honor our departed loved one’s final wishes. When the team came to pick up my father, they arrived in a professional manner and treated his body with dignity. They stayed very communicative to make sure we were okay even after we’re done. We could not have asked for any better service.

I selected Tharp Funeral Home and Crematory to handle arrangements after the passing of my mom. From the moment I walked in the door I felt at ease. Molly Shutt was fantastic throughout the entire process. She was kind, professional, and kept me updated and informed. A first-class experience during the most difficult time of my life. Thanks to Molly and the entire Tharp organization. I highly recommend them.

Professional, Compassionate and caring describe this funeral home. They were able to work with my family on short notice and with a tight budget. They even gave us military discount for our relative. I wouldn’t even consider another funeral home. Thanks for easing this time of transition for us.

I lost my mother on Dec 1st and it was one of the hardest things I've dealt with. But Brett Coffey helped me my brother and sister threw it all he really made something so awful into something that actually made us smile in the last four years my family has lost are brother grandmother my niece my aunt my best friend my wife's mother and now my mother. To say the least I've been threw a few funeral arrangements. But Brett by far was the most amazing person and I just want to say thank you so much for everything and I really appreciate how you took care of mother and my family you really brought happiness where there was so much pain. I would recommend Tharp to anyone that is dealing with this.

We worked with Tom Lloyd to preplan my mother in laws funeral/arrangements and everything was handled in a way that was both professional and comforting without any problems or glitches. When my mother in law passed away, Tom came to our home and removed my mother in law’s body for transport to the funeral home, it was done with such tenderness and love that 3 years later we still remember how tenderly it was completed. Due to this, we have not only taken every opportunity to recommend Tharp to others but also have preplanned my father in laws arrangements knowing there is no other choice in our book. This brings me to my email today. Since we have recommended Tharp Funeral Home to our neighbors and friends, we have had two others, one neighbor and one co-worker, who have needed your services. When following up on how things went they both gave us glowing reports on how well they were treated and how tenderly the Tharp employee handled their family and their grief. Although I did not specifically recommend Tom Lloyd to either one of them as I realize your business has many competent and professional employees, as circumstance would have it they both ended up dealing with Tom Lloyd. When they described the love, tenderness, and professionalism they felt in how everything was handled, I knew immediately it sounded like Tom Lloyd. When I asked who they dealt with they both stated, “…an exceptional young man named Tom Lloyd.”Too often in today’s world people only take the time to write when they have a complaint. I felt I should write and pass on my personal feeling about working with your organization when things go right, no complaints. I also felt to let you know that it is also nice that when I recommend Tharp to others it is a recommendation that I can have confidence will be handled the same way my personal experience was. My compliments to Tom Lloyd being the same professional and awesome young man not only with people he knows but also with others I recommend to Tharp. I have learned that what is reflected in employees usually comes from the example and mentoring from those at the top of the organization, in this case, Chris Tharp. So thank you to you also for what you are accomplishing in your running of your business and mentoring of young men like Tom Lloyd.

Tharp has the most caring and professional staff of any funeral home I've worked with during a family loss. My grandmother's passing was difficult and painful for our family, but we were supported every step of the way by each Tharp employee we came into contact with while saying our final goodbyes and I love you's to my nana. The compassion and empathy was evident even months after the memorial service, and I'm grateful for the way they blessed us throughout the process.

When our dear father died suddenly after a severe stroke, my sisters and I were left distraught and overwhelmed. A close friend highly recommended Tharp Funeral Home and their professionalism, empathy and attention to detail exceeded our highest expectations. When you lose a loved one, your chief concern is to attend to their final arrangements and memorialize them in a way that is personal, meaningful, and dignified. Tharp helped us to succeed in doing just that. Their ready answers to any questions or concerns allayed any anxiety we might've felt as we said goodbye to our beloved Dad.There aren't enough accolades to give; I'm so thankful we hired Tharp Funeral Home.

Tharp Funeral home has handled 4 of our family members. I cannot thank them enough for the guidance, understanding and compassion they have shown in each of these traumatic events in our family's life. During these most difficult times in our lives it is reassuring to know you are in good hands. They will hold your hand through all the difficult decisions that have to be made, all the while respecting your wishes, and being pushy. I can't recommend them high enough.

My grandmother passed recently and we remembered her speaking highly of how kind the people were at Tharp on Breezewood. We made the decision to use them for our services and we were so glad we did. I personally can not say enough good things about Kay Rice and the rest of the staff here. From the beginning Ms. Kay connected with my own mother immediately and helped to make the whole process of losing her mother just a bit more bearable. Kay was sympathetic and approached certain situations with just the right amount of needed and appropriate humor, she eased tensions and stress and helped us to get through it all one step at a time. She reached out and made sure we were all included , even my two young sons.Kay, and all of you at Tharp, thank you. My mother and I will always remember how welcoming and understanding all of you were. You made a hard day an easier one.All of our love and gratitude.

My husband and I made pre-arrangements this past year with Tharp Funeral Home. I cannot say enough positive things about the experience overall and the professional care and concern with which Erica handled our needs.

Losing my husband was one of the most difficult times in my life. Tharp Funeral Home and especially Patrick helped me so much through this process. He was professional and respectful of my wishes. He wasn't pushy nor did he try to "sell" me. I appreciated his honesty and care.

First and foremost when your grieving the loss of your loved one you shouldn’t have to deal with unnecessary stress. I just recently lost my cousin, we were very close. I spent quite a bit of time writing a heartfelt tribute to her online on the Tharp site under her obituary and submitted it, received a confirmation email saying it will post shortly and I posted two photos after that and I received confirmation they had been submitted and would be posted shortly. Well the 2 photos posted but my tribute never did. I called the number in the email that says call this if you need assistance so I did and I talked to a guy and he took down all my info and said someone would get back to me on that matter and they never did. My tribute still has yet to post. Then due to other circumstances, I may not be able to make it to family night so like other times I have done before with loved ones that have passed, I stopped by the funeral home to see if I could sign the guest book and get a pamphlet and the lady at the front desk was SO RUDE. She looked at me like I was dumb, she acted like she had never heard of anyone stopping by to sign a guestbook and pay respects early bc of unforeseen reasoning that they can’t come to the actual set family night time. She never once smiled, she was not comforting or compassionate, she literally acted like her job was a hassle. More so than ever, being in this line of work you really need to be warm and welcoming and caring, soft spoken and helpful, all the things which she was absolutely not. She was also on the phone and didn’t seem to pleasant to the recipient on the other end as well. I give this 1 star and that was only bc she eventually went and got the guestbook and brung it out for me to sign. She wasn’t happy about it to say the least. Very uncomfortable situation and the negative vibe she gave off, twisted at my already broken heart.

When my husband passed away we had him cremated. My sister, from out of town, wished to say a quick goodbye to him beforehand. I was told that she couldn't do so until I paid a few hundred more dollars in order to "clean him up". The body was clean when they came to my house to get him. Moreover, as he was a Vietnam veteran, I ordered a circular emblem to go on top of his coffer. When I picked it up I noticed straight away that it was off to one side. When I pointed this out, the lady disappeared into the office for a few short minutes. Then she came back and told me there was nothing they could do about it. No smile, no understanding tone of voice. She just stood there waiting for me to leave. Their lack of compassion rang volumes. Very disappoining and hurtful. They do not care.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory of Lynchburg has an amazing team of professionals. During a very dark time in our family due to a loss, they made the funeral arrangements, planning, ceremony, and cremation process seamless. We had the pleasure to work with Mr. Murrell Thornhill who is an outstanding representation of the company's mission with providing the highest level of service and attention to detail. Mr. Thornhill was understanding, empathetic, direct, professional, and adaptive. He made recommendations when necessary, clearly communicated pricing, and facilitated a positive atmosphere throughout the entire process. He was able to easily adjust to last minute changes and kept us aware of all precautions being taken by Tharp during COVID-19. I highly recommend Thanrp of Lynchburg to handle any funeral needs.
Phyllis St. Clair
Staff was very helpful and expressed concern that the family's wishes were carried out. Also received follow up phone calls to make sure we didn't have any questions. Was very pleased with the professionalism exhibited by everyone at Tharp.

Went in and immediately felt comforted and welcomed. My mom was picking up her dad’s remains and she had wanted a flag and case for the flag since he’s a veteran. She was worried about all the paperwork and how she would get it and they gave it to her then and there. No paperwork. Made everything very easy for my mom. She ended up crying at the end because of how nice everyone was.

I would not recommend this funeral home to anyone. The owner is untrustworthy and will lie to you. I went against my instincts and used them for my mother's funeral. She wasn't presentable until 2 hours before family night even though she had died 4 days earlier. They will never get any more of my family's business. There are other more affordable and easier to work with funeral homes in the Lynchburg, Bedford and Madison heights area.
Tony Story
Everyone was very helpful, but mostly they were understanding. We were informed of everything that was going on and everything that was to happen. They answered every question we had and offered different suggestions to us. Although it's usually a sad time for families I think we surprised the representative with how much we joked around and laughed. I'll recommend you to everyone I know. Perfect in every way.
