I have spent the past few weeks trying to find the right words to describe how fantastic the team at McAlister-Smith was after the loss of our son, especially Abigail. During a time that no parent should ever have to experience, Abigail was amazing. She walked us through the process making sure we were ok each step of the way. During a time when making even the smallest decisions was difficult she stepped in and helped us and even sometimes made the decisions for us when we simply couldn't. She was patient with our questions and last minute changes, she was kind, and most of all she was compassionate. Abigail organized the most beautiful cremation and celebration of life we could have asked for. We can't thank her enough.

My mother died in May; although she'd had dementia for several years, her death was somewhat sudden. The team at McAllister Smith was very helpful and kind when it came time to make decisions about cremation and placing a death notice on their website. They followed up on the phone afterwards and they send emails to check on the surviving relatives, too. I can't comment on services since we didn't have one, but I would recommend McAllister-Smith based on the care and compassion shown by everyone there.

When my wife passed away last month after a very long battle with cancer McAlister-Smith was recommended by my attorney and also by a neighbor who had just lost her father.I called and set an appointment the next day and met with Don Miller and Parker Smith. When you go through this shock, loss and unbearable pain you need to make sure you have chosen the best team out there and McAlister-Smith should be your first call. I sat with professionals who wanted me to be educated in the process and they asked what I / the family needed /wanted. We sat and went through /covered everything in the first meeting. My wife is going to be buried in Connecticut and they handle all the transportation and coordinated everything with the funeral home is Westport., flawlessly. Also In our first meeting they walked me through a prepared folder for me with all the lists of tasks that needed to be pull together to be during and after the funeral….. it covers everything that needs to be done. We set up a second meeting a day or two later to select a casket with the kids.At this meeting we met Gene Pardee and Melissa Hollander. Gene and Melissa recapped the first meeting notes from Don and Parker and did not miss a beat. In fact my grown children took over that second meeting chose the casket and finished the arrangements, selected flowers, mass cards, and a registry book. MS knew the church and contacted the Reverand. On the night my wife of 33 years passed at home surround by her family McAlister-Smith team arrived and was respectful and sensitive to the moment, and made sure each member of the family had a private moment to say good bye to their mother.Parker and the MS team at the church arrived early to the church walked us through the options with the casket flowers and photos, once again Team MS nailed it again, I never looked back, never worried about the burial in Connecticut it went perfectly because they handled and managed every detail so we did not have too.The Meyer family of Mount Pleasant SC. cannot thank Don, Parker, Gene, Melissa and the entire MS team enough for the perfect job they did with the handling of Carleen Meyer, and her funeral arrangements. What we can give them is the 5 google star rating that they earned, and I have already committed to have McAlister-Smith handle my arrangements when it’s my time, they are the gold standard.

I would like to thank the staff at McAlister-Smith Funeral & Cremation for being supportive, professional, and compassionate when my brother passed away. Parker Smith went above and beyond what was expected of him. I really appreciated his timely responses to all of my calls and texts. Parker would even take time out of his day just to check in on me. At such a difficult time, I really appreciated all of their help and expertise with making the necessary decisions and arrangements with saying goodbye to my brother.
Rebecca Long
Everything was done so with the utmost care. The staff were fantastic! We had the wake at the facility and after a church funeral and burial we returned for a catered luncheon at the funeral home. It was set up beautifully which allowed us to truly celebrate the life of our beloved Mother. No detail went unnoticed! We felt loved and cared for by every person we came in contact with! I would highly recommend using them when you lose a loved one. Their professionalism and care was the best!

Sal and the team at McALister-Smith were incredible during the most difficult time in my family's life. It felt like we were dealing with a family member, not someone whom we had just met. We felt listened to, we felt comforted and we felt loved. It takes special individuals to help you feel that way when all you know is that you feel broken. I cannot say enough great things about MS and what it meant to our family that my wife and my children's' mother, was in such caring hands. Thank you to everyone at MS for the gift you've given our family.

We cannot begin to thank each and every person who not only cared for our mother but went to great lengths to make sure that the rest of family was taken care of and in agreement with every detail of the services that they arranged. Their attention to our needs was both impressive and very comforting. My father has expressed the same sentiments They have been in touch to make sure that he's okay and offered outreach if he needs it. If I could I would give them 10 stars!

Not sure how to review a funeral home?!? My brother, sister and I used McAlister-Smith when we were completely devastated by the loss of our parent. My father was the first to be cared for 11years ago, and only 3 months ago we were blindsided again by the passing of our mom. Each time we called McAlister-Smith, and each time they responded with kindness, compassion, efficiency, and understanding. They handled many items quickly and efficiently with only a single call as if we had pre-planned everything, yet we hadn’t.Making decisions about a passed loved one was not easy! But McAlister-Smith created an environment that allowed our family to make smart and compassionate decisions that helped our entire family and friends properly mourn without any additional stress. Please call and hug those you love. Do it as often as you can. Sometimes things happen faster than we think.I and my family were thankful to have McAlister-Smith as as an advocate, when we were in such despair. James & Linda, thank you.

The service we received from McAlister-Smith Funeral & Cremation for my father's funeral last summer was phenomenal. We had previously used their funeral services for another family member a few years prior and were pleased with their services again. Their guidance and support during this extremely difficult time was great and very much appreciated. Ben was especially compassionate and helpful in ensuring that everything was taken care of. This was truly a full-service experience and I am so appreciative of Ben and his team for providing a stress-free experience, so that my family and I could focus on mourning our loss.

I cannot say enough great things about McAlister-Smith Funeral and Cremation. From our first interaction to our last, they were respectful, genuine and transparent. They treated our dad like he was one of their own family members. We are so appreciative for their patience; they walked us through and kept us abreast every step of the way! As tough a time as this was, the process couldn’t have made easier. Thank you for everything!!!!

McAllister-Smith is most widely known for their compassion and delicacy when handling your human loved ones, what a lot of people don’t realize is they extended that same compassion and delicacy to your furry loved ones as well. McAllister-Smith is the best option for all funeral and cremation services!

I'm so grateful for the caring service my parents received from Ben at McAlister-Smith when our dog died. They could not quit talking about how kind he was and how he treated them as if they'd lost a family member, not "just" a dog. They were beside themselves with grief, and Ben helped ease that grief a bit. I could not be there during this time, so it means everything that they were treated with such compassion and kindness. Many thanks to Ben and all the staff at McAlister-Smith.

The staff here is awesome. My mom passed away out of state, and they handled everything, including calling a funeral home in atlanta to come and pick her up (and they were quick - rainy day at 4pm in Atlanta, and they were there in no time). They made the process seamless, which was great, as you tend to be a little brain dead when you lose a family member. They met with us once we made it back to Charleston, and even handled all the billing, so we didn't have to deal with the people in Atlanta, McAlister Smith, and the cemetery. It was just one bill. They showed us a lot of kindness and we really appreciate it!

Unfortunately, I have been to way to many funerals in my 38 years. McAlister Smith is hands down the best. Mark Smith, Archie, and the McAlister Smith family make a sad and difficult process very comforting. They show compassion to the family and treat you as if you are part of their family. They have handled many of my friends and family members who have passed over the years, and every time I feel very good about how my loved one was handled and how our family was comforted. They will always handle my family.

The staff at McAlister-Smith did everything for us and allowed my family to be at peace while we went through the process of planning my mother’s funeral. Ben Pooser was instrumental in making sure my mother’s funeral was a beautiful ceremony and my family and friends were well taken care of. Saying thank you is not enough to explain my gratitude.

After living in Mt Pleasant for just over two years we were faced with the task of relocating my aging father to the area so he could spend his final months close to my family and me. When Dad passed in April we had to make a choice to help find his final resting place in an area we were barely getting to know ourselves, After some research we chose to work with McAlister-Smith. Ben Pooser has been our main point of contact throughout the process. McAlister-Smith worked with us to settle things at our pace. They kept Dad's cremated remains in place until we were able to assemble our family for a lovely and intimate farewell. Ben helped organize a Military Funeral to celebrate our father, a proud Veteran of the US Army. Ben also accompanied me to find a final resting place for Dad's remains at the West Ashley location by a peaceful pond on McAlister-Smith property. We just recently completed the process after many months of patience and empathy from Ben and the McAlister-Smith team. My family and I are eternally grateful to McAlister-Smith as a unit and Ben as an individual for all they did to make a difficult time better. Words alone cannot express our gratitude.

I received companionate, caring and professional service for my husband’s funeral. I needed out of state services and they made everything seamless. They were readily available with any of my questions and helped me and my children through a very difficult time. They even checked in on me after the service to see how I was coping. I recommend them wholeheartedly.Janice Duggan

They helped us tremendously with the financial side of things as well. We are grateful for their care and compassion during this time.

I have been researching pre-needs funeral arrangements for my mother's surviving widower. I am his POA, but since he is in a memory care group home in Spokane, WA, the logistics have been challenging. Someone suggested that i visit a local funeral home to verify the information I was getting from a business in WA. I popped into McAlister-Smith and Ben Pooser couldn't have been any kinder or more professional. He explained thoroughly what the other home's representative had me confused about. Furthermore, he offered to take a look at the contract and even to conference call if there were any loose ends. I really was touched that someone would take this much time, when clearly there wasn't a prospect of financial gain to their business. If word-of-mouth is a priceless commodity, I hope this review will prompt anyone that has to investigate pre-planning or pre-paying for their own loved one(s). Thank you Ben!
Hattie Fennell
The customer service was phenomenal. The staff also does a great job of laying out exactly what you need to do after your loved one passes (order death certificates, file tax return, etc.) The only negative comment I have is that they charge an extremely hefty fee to drop your loved one’s ashes off at a local church. I would have paid $100 or less, but unfortunately the only options we were presented were much higher.
Anna Lyon
After the loss of our baby girl, the team made the process incredibly easy for us. They came to us for all the paperwork and personally brought her home to us. I would recommend the team at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home to anyone.
Greg Gilbert
Very Disappointed in the service we received. There is a lack of attention to detail at almost every level. I would think a funeral home wants to get *everything* perfect. The person we dealt with (withholding name because I do not know the person or persons responsible for the mistakes) appeared to have everything correct. The first issue I noticed was the length of time to get the obituary posted. One would think that would be posted within 24 hours of furnishing the funeral home with the obituary. It wasn't. One would also think it would be published according to the obituary provided, it wasn't. (My mother's middle name was used instead of her maiden name for her middle name.) My mother was cremated and the certificate of cremation (not the state certificate) had my mother's middle name on it and not her maiden name - my mother used her maiden name as her middle name in married life. Then the funeral home had to be told to mail or deliver the replacement certificate instead of offering to mail/deliver it. Also, the funeral home did not have the urn in stock and we were not told this when we originally met with the funeral director. The last insult was the engraver the funeral home uses spelled her middle (maiden) name wrong on the urn. My parents preplanned their funerals (highly recommended!), regrettably I will be dealing with the same funeral home when my father passes. It seems to me there needs to be more attention to detail and everything should be triple checked!
Virginia Coyne
The loss of my brother was so difficult but Greg and the rest of the team were so helpful and considerate. They were able to help us navigate complicated issues with sensitivity, kindness and good humor. I highly recommend McAlister- Smith.

I Wanted The Best That Anyone Could Offer For My Husband's Service And I Got SO MUCH MORE. The Dignity, Respect and Compassion That Was Extended To Our Entire Family Was Beyond Words. You Opened Up Your Business On A Sunday Afternoon To Plan A Tuesday Service And You Spent 4 Hours Of Your Time With Me To Make Sure That Everything That I Wanted Was Accomodated. Every Detail Was Done With Love And Perfection. The Military Honors Were Moving And Words Are Not Invented To Describe It. I Keep Hearing The Same Words From Those That Attended The Service And They All Say, "This Was The Most Beautiful Service I Have Ever Attended". No Words Can Adequately Express All The Compassion And Understanding You Showed To Us And The True Meaning Of Love Was Displayed By All You Did. On Behalf Of My Family And Myself, I Thank You.

My brother passed away in February unexpectedly. I live in the North East so there were extra challenges to find a funeral home in South Carolina. I am very thankful to have found McAlister Smith. I dealt with Ben Pooser who could not have been more helpful or kind. i would highly recommend this organization to anyone in need of their services..

This place took advantage of grieving family members from out of town. Their cremation fees are more than quadruple what other places charge in the area, and more than double what are considered normal. Once we had time to review what happened, we contacted the facility to see if the company would make things right and offer some sort of refund, but all contacts were ignored - no email response, no call back. I would never recommend this place based on our experience.Edit: Please note that the response from the business below came literally after multiple emails and multiple voice mails that the business ignored. They only responded when there was a public review. Furthermore, they did not apologize, nor do anything to make things right. And, I uncovered that they've had fake reviews posted to boost their rating. AVOID!

First class operation that provided a critical service to those in a time when they truly need it. Our experience from start to finish was extremely positive, with a group of individuals who proved to be there at every step of the way in a most difficult time. Our family truly appreciates the work that this group of caring people performed.

The whole staff was very supportive during the loss of our baby daughter. They kept us in the know of what was happening and checked in with us after everything was settled as well.

After the loss of our baby girl, the team made the process incredibly easy for us. They came to us for all the paperwork and personally brought her home to us. I would recommend the team at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home to anyone.
