I would highly recommend McAlister-Smith Funeral & Cremation in Goose Creek. The staff led by Gene and Don were all wonderful. My father passed away unexpectedly after 89 years, and from the time of his death to his funeral and burial services, M-S staff were professional and caring of our entire family. My father spent 30 years in the Navy, and military honors were important to him. Gene, in particular, was able to set this up for us in less than 24 hours. Gene and staff were like an extended part of our family during this difficult time.At the funeral home, M-S staff did a great job preparing my dad's body for viewing and demonstrated deep respect with the draping of the American flag over his coffin. The state room for the private visitation was also solemn, well decorated and very clean. Finally, we were pleased at how quickly the called us with the death certificate.

I would highly recommend McAlister Smith Funeral and cremation. The staff were all wonderful. My dad passed away after some time in hospice care and when the team came to his home, they were very professional, caring, and treated my dads body, myself and his wife with the utmost respect. My dad spent time in the Air Force, and they showed an incredible amount of respect by draping an American flag over his body as they removed him. My dad asked to be cremated, and Zachary spent a generous amount of time with my dad's wife and myself, reviewing the process, picking out an urn, and explaining next steps in great detail.Zachary treated us very respectfully and reassured us that he would be available if we had any questions or concerns in the future. THANK YOU AGAIN!!!

Our family was treated carefully and with full compassion at such a devastating time. Nothing rushed, all our questions answered patiently, though the booklet provided explained it all- my Father in his grief needed verbal explanation, Don was so patient. With the unexpected snow storm, they were so understanding for our need to delay the service. A special shout out to Rachel, she is an angel.Being a native Charlestonian, of course McAllister was our choice, and so appreciative. The frequent contacts afterward to check on our grief journey speaks of their dedication. Thank you from my heart.

Marlene Davis, Jason McCord and the entire staff were absolutely great to work with. All details from getting moms body transported from South Carolina to Tennessee, the service, florist, everything was handled very professionally. Most of the details were done over the phone.

My family member pre-planned the funeral one year to the date that her funeral occurred. The team at McAllister Smith could not have been more helpful. Don Miller helped us with the planning and then I met with him again to work out the details. Megan helped with a lot of the details as well. On the day of her funeral mass, three people came to the church and helped in every possible way and brought all that was promised. Everything was seamless and done with great compassion. I can honestly say I hope not need their services anytime soon, but I would not hesitate to recommend them.

I would like to praise and thank McAlister-Smith for their wonderful services and support during our family's difficult time when my father passed away at home in August during the night of Hurricane Idalia. They came late in the night after 2am to pick up my father and bring him to the funeral home. They gracefully and respectfully put my father on the stretcher and place a U.S. flag over him as he is a military Veteran. The helped us with the arrangements and needed paperwork for our family and made sure we had the necessary paperwork my mother needed for the state, federal, and Veterans Affairs. For my father's viewing they were wonderful and the space for all the attendees was more than enough. McAlister -Smith had a working relationship with Immaculate Conception in Goose Creek and they helped coordinate with the church which helped make things go more smoothly. The attention to detail and little things they did was appreciated so that we could still have time to grieve and be with family. They helped us setup a slide show and have music we selected for that personal touch allowed the event to be special. After the viewing we gathered in the eating area and the front area since we had a lot of guests. They had a refrigerator that allowed us to store drinks and food beforehand and they helped setup the tables and eating area. We went over a little for the scheduled time and they were gracious and didn't complain. During the church service and funeral, they again did not disappoint. As with all plans some things change and they were able to allow my brother and I to be with he family instead of be a pallbearer. The flower arrangements and setting at the alter were all as planned and beautiful. The care and respectfulness of the procession to the cemetery to Rivers Ave went well for not having police escort. They had coordinated the Naval Honors for my father and one of the staff noticed the flag was not folded correctly and they refolded the flag and presented it back to my mother. Even after the funeral they have made sure our family was taken care of and sent information for counselling if needed. Recently my father's birthday passed on 10/19 and they sent us a thoughtful text. Thank you McAlister-Smith for your care, dedication, and respectfulness.LRB

We already knew we were going to use McAlister-Smith for our Father's funeral arrangements because we were pleased with what they helped us thru with our Mother's funeral. Everyone is so helpful, professional and friendly. When we forgot about something they were there with a substitution to help make sure everything ran smoothly. I lost my husband of 32 years 14 days ago. McAlister- Smith was my first choice to call since my family had used their services in the past. As before, they did not disappoint. The kindness and compassion they extended was what I needed when trying to make decisions for my husband's final resting. They were understanding, patient, and immensely helpful in leading me through the process. The services ended up being exactly what I had envisioned and I felt like my husband was treated with the respect and dignity he deserved.

The McAllister-Smith team did a exceptional job taking care of my wife's final arrangements. They listened to what I requested based on my wife's final wishes and did not try upsell services to take advantage of our time of grief. Every detail was attended to, a minor issue did arise, but was resolved immediately. The staff was supportive and I felt they were genuine in their concern for the arrangements, and the well being of my family.Although no one wants to think about loosing a loved one, I would recommend McAllister-Smith for taking care of a loved ones final arrangements. They helped make a difficult situation more manageable.

I can not tell you how stressful and emotional it is to lose someone unexpectedly all the while having to plan their funeral or memorial the very next day. We were a mess and Cody made the pain much less while he walked us through the process step by step. He is a true professional and is good at what he does. After we made our decisions one by one we felt confident in our selections and did not want any regrets. After we went home we continued the process for the online orbituary we continued to make changes and Megan was so very supportive and offered advice when we needed it. After she officially published the orbituary. I requested 2 more changes and she was very patient we me and made those changes immediately. This was not our fist time with McAlister Funeral Home and Creamation. Which is why we will continue to use them.

The entire staff at McAlister-Smith Funeral & Cremation in Goose Creek were simply wonderful. Everyone made us feel at ease and were very comforting for me and my family during this very difficult time. We used their services during my older brother’s passing in September 2021 and then again for my father’s recent passing in October. The entire staff has been nothing but amazing. My family and I are eternally grateful for the kindness you showed us. A million thanks!!

I like to leave longer, detailed reviews about things surrounding this subject to hopefully help someone going through the same thing. My father passed away in May in hospice care and McAlister-Smith was one of the places that the hospice home recommended. We are new to the area and still trying to learn things. I called somewhere else first and it felt wrong. I mean, they didn’t even ask for my father’s name or my name. I then called McAlister-Smith second and I am so glad I did.My dad passed on a holiday weekend and later at night. At first contact with Greg, he made me feel less alone. After collecting some information, Greg went out of his way to find a Catholic priest to pray with us over the phone- it was around 11pm on a Sunday. The were prompt and respectful with picking up my father’s body. Greg was also a text away while preparing paperwork and other immediate decisions that needed to be made. He was patient and thoughtful when I needed to take a moment to collect myself. I can’t thank you enough, Greg.My family then met with Don Miller to help work out final details. Don was patient, level headed and very helpful during this meeting. My father was cremated and we had a memorial service. The price was reasonable and explained well. Don didn’t act like a sales man trying to upsell things - he was courteous and patient while explaining options. Thank you for your patience, Don.We viewed my dad for a final time to allow immediate family who drove/flew in to say goodbye. The undertaker did a wonderful job keeping my dad dignified. Thank you.The administrative assistants were so very kind and warm both when coordinating details of my dad’s memorial service over the phone and email. They comforted me and helped me the morning that I picked up his urn. The memorial service was perfect and everyone loved the photo reel.I am so glad that I went with McAlister-Smith to help honor my father’s life. My family and I felt supported and were treated with upmost care every step of the way. I am so thankful for everyone I worked with through the whole process and would recommend their services to those who want their loved one to be treated with top care and respect.

Esmeralda was so helpful, and not pushy for decisions immediately. I needed a little more time and she gave me as much time as she could. She has a big heart and is great at her job.

My aunt passed away in February, 2020. Since my uncle had passed away in March 3 years ago, and I was so impressed with McAlister-Smith Funeral home then, I knew I would be contacting them again. Mr. James Sweatman led me through the process with so much care & patience. I was able to give my aunt the most wonderful viewing and funeral without any worries. The viewing & service went like clockwork. I just told them what was required & it was handled in the most professional & compassionate way. I have so many mementos from the service including a Tribute DVD (they created by me providing the pictures), laminated bookmarks, & a keepsake book. I cannot say enough about all of the staff there. They were so caring & kind-hearted at such a difficult time - especially Mr. Sweatman & Mrs. Glasgow. I would highly recommend their services!

I attended a memorial service for a close friend's father at the McAlister-Smith Funeral Home. Although I generally don't like attending these types of events, I found myself quite comfortable in the atmosphere provided there. The staff was extremely professional and it was easy to tell they cared for the well-being of all those that attended and understood what a memorial should be remembered for...a time of remembrance, family togetherness, and closure. Very well done.

My wife and I had not made any prior funeral arrangements though we had decided we wanted to be cremated. McAlister-Smith Funeral and Crematorium Goose Creek was the closest facility and so when my wife passed away I instructed the hospital to arrange for them to carry out the cremation. My preliminary meeting with the McAlister-Smith staff was genuinely consoling and extremely helpful in informing me about the necessary procedures, facilitating the publishing of the obituary, alerting Social Security, and accommodating some of my wife’s distinctive wishes with regard to her ashes. I would whole heartedly recommend McAlister-Smith’s services to those in need.

I really hate to leave a bad review for a funeral home but my experience with this place was terrible. Due to an unfortunate set of circumstance my dogs passed away; and At the advice of a neighbor we took our two dogs to McAlister’s to have them cremated. When we took them it was on a Friday night, after hours and the gentleman that took our dogs wanted me to write down my credit card information on a piece of paper. I told him for security reasons that I did not want to do that but I had no problem paying my bill if someone could just called me during their normal business hours. He assured me that this was no issue and that he would have the dogs cremated the next day and they would call me for payment on Monday.Nevertheless, Monday came and went and after nearly a week my wife and I decided to call the funeral home and see about paying our bill and also if The dogs had been cremated. They informed us that the dogs were still sitting at their facility due to nonpayment. When we explained what we were told the only thing that they could offer was to say it was a miscommunication. Not to mention that they said we would receive a certificate of cremation which one month later we have yet to receive. While I was already heartbroken this place made it worseI understand that to some people they were just animals, but to us they were family. This funeral home saw absolutely no regard to what we were dealing with. I highly suggest you not take your love ones and especially your pets here .

Some of the kindest and most thoughtful people I have ever met. Don has the most calming demeanor. We could tell that he cared. Both Don and Maya helped my family lay our mom to rest. They continue to answer my questions and emails. I can't say enough positive things about them. I am glad that we decided to trust McAlister-Smith.

My husband passed away on Nov 19, 2021 leaving the family confused and broken. Everyone we dealt with from the initial transfer and planning through the family gathering was patient with our confusion, professional in their care of my husband, and genuinely caring with our loss. They even texted me on Thanksgiving just to check on us.I highly recommend this location to help during a heartbreaking time. An added comfort was the accessibility of my disability and wheelchair. My only complaint is actually in support of the staff. They had to walk to a different room for printed items during the planning instead of having a printer close to them. It's inconvenient for them and leaves the grieving family with too much empty time to think.

We love McAlister-Smith in Goose Creek. I was just giving an account to my friend of the day my grandmother passed. They came to get her, and as they were taking her out the door, stopped so we could each have a moment with her to say good bye in my parent's home. When we went into her room, a rose and card were laying on her pillow. So sweet, with such attention to detail. Great, great people there!!

In my experience, McAlister-Smith has always gone above and beyond for their clients. Whether for a pet cremation or funeral/memorial service, the treat everyone with kindness and respect. If you're looking for a flawless team to ensure that your loved one is properly taken care of for the last time, Andrea and her manager, Greg will do so, every step of the way!

I first want to say that the staff present at the day of my mother’s service were very considerate. They gave us space to grieve without ignoring us. I hate to leave a poor review of a funeral home, but the way Cory acted while we were planning everything the week before was so abhorrent, the kindness of the staff that day couldn’t redeem this funeral home to my family.Cory, who we unfortunately had to handle all of the arrangements through, was incredibly rude to my family. To begin with, he (repeatedly) made several inappropriate remarks to my boyfriend implying that he should not be in a relationship with me/should “know what he’s getting into. While we were discussing my mother’s passing, Cory’s phone rang very loudly. Instead of either quickly apologizing and taking the call or instantly silencing it and apologizing, he let it ring and kept looking between us and his phone. It’s already incredibly unprofessional that it went off during this, but he waited until my dad said to take the call if it was that important. While he was gone, I discovered there were only three tissues in the box he gave us. There was no one in the lobby to give me a new box, either.During the planning process, I mentioned that my mom wanted her ashes spread with my father, whenever they were both gone; Cory, of course, wanted to make more money off of my mother’s passing. He kept trying to get us to purchase the sea turtle container to spread her ashes in the ocean. While she loved sea turtles and that may be how she and my father are eventually spread, my father is still quite obviously alive, as he was there making these arrangements! While I understand this is a place of business which needs to make money, trying to nickel and dime people who are grieving is unacceptable. Also, several times during our time with Cory, a woman walked through to grab brochures, saying “oh, just pretend I’m not here!” I don’t understand why we were put in the showroom with brochures and the sample urns/caskets while people would be walking through. That’s what upset me the most. People deserve to be given respect and privacy when going through this, not to feel like they are in the way.We made it clear that my mom wouldn’t have wanted a large service, but Cory continually tried to upsell us on more expensive packages/urns/services (while saying “I’m not trying to upsell you, BUT…”) All we wanted was a small celebration of life, my mom to be cremated, put in a nice (not extravagant) urn, to later spread her with my father’s ashes, and for her and my family to be treated respectfully. When asked about music, we said none or quiet instrumental background music. Instead, at the service, we were told since we didn’t pick music, they’d loop the same 4 songs. They played them so loudly we could barely speak over it. It was also nothing like what we asked for (and honestly we hated the music choices) so it made an already rough day even worse. To top it all off, when Cory called to let us know when my mother’s ashes would be ready, he said “You can come Tuesday or Wednesday, but, you know, I would really prefer if you came Wednesday.” My dad had to work around Cory’s schedule.Quite honestly, I think Cory should find a different career field. Based on his sleazy, money-hungry actions and utter disregard for our grief, I think he would be much happier at a used car dealership.

I greatly appreciate the care and attention that was given to my loved one and to our family during one of the most difficult times in our lives. The compassion and patience will always be remembered. Thank you! May God continue to bless you as you are a blessing to us, your community.

My son was killed by a hit and run driver in Greenville SC and they quickly transported him to Goose Creek. We were not able to see our son based on his injuries but they took a picture of a very unique tattoo so we would know it was him.We were assisted with selecting an Urn, memorial book, keep-sakes and mailing of his remains when the Urn was received. They were very caring, accommodating, and I have received a couple follow up calls to see how I am doing and if there is anything they could do.

I can’t begin to tell you how much this place and their staff helped us with my mom’s funeral. I’m not at all computer smart and was having issues with the obituary. Leanne, one of the staff members took her time and walked me through it. They showed love, condolences to the whole family. I can’t thank them enough.

rude as all get up - was trying to ask the man they had in parking lot a simple question about parking and he was so rude and arrogant I gave up and walked away. He did even try in the least bit to even hear my question - just wanted to move people along like cattle - save yourself the headache and use Dyal

As an estate planning and probate attorney I work with many funeral homes in the low country. The team at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home in Goose Creek is exceptional. Andrea Morgan, Director of Support, goes above and beyond for her families. She treats her clients with a high level of care and provides a quality service. I highly recommend the Goose Creek Chapel of the McAlister-Smith Funeral Home.

Everyone is so helpful, professional and friendly. When we forgot about something they were there with a substitution to help make sure everything ran smoothly. I would use again and highly recommend for your services.

We lost both of our sweet girls, Lucy and Madison nine months a part last year. McAlister’s treated my girls with the such kindness and dignity. They were so very patient and I struggled to say goodbye to each of them...I cannot put into words the gratitude for such sweet tender kindness extended to us during that time. And today, you are receiving my dear friends sweet shepherd girl Zoey who was set free of her broken body just moments ago. Ben reached out immediately upon me leaving a message with the answering service that Zoey was ready and his response “We are on our way right now to get your sweet girl to ensure she is in our care.as soon as possible.” Thank you falls so very short...your kindness is beyond measure and I simply can’t find words enough to say thank you

I would not recommend McAlister-Smith for your loved ones funeral arrangements. Very impersonal and they simply do not care. I have had a horrible experience. During our initial meeting I let Don, the site director, know that we wanted to have a slide show looping during the visitation and then a slide show during the funeral service. I asked what file format was needed and he could not tell me. He simply stated that some clients who create them on a Mac would not play on their system. I am an IT professional, so I understood what this meant (Mac / Windows Media Player compatibility issue). Don said to bring the movie on a USB stick the day before to ensure it would work.I proceeded to use iMovie to create two slide shows - one with no sound to be looped during the viewing, and a second one with music to be shown during the funeral service. I ensured my movies were in the right file format to play on a Windows computer. Don was able get the movie with no sound to display fine. However, he could not get the movie with sound to have the audio come through the speakers. Come to find out, they do not have their computer hooked up to their sound system! This is something a $5 cable could resolve. Don stated that usually people don't have sound with their slide shows. Not sure what century Don is living in... Don offered ZERO solutions and simply stated that he could not speak to how the owners have the sound system setup. He said I should have created a DVD. However, that contradicts his instructions to me to bring in the movie on a USB thumb drive.I went home very upset as I was having to deal with McAlister-Smith's incompetence with their technology setup. I got a call from Sean stating he could burn a DVD for me with the files that I provided. So....I drove back to McAlister-Smith in Goose Creek and met Sean. He burned two DVDs of my movies and they played fine in their DVD player. However, the software he used was not licensed so there was a HUGE watermark logo across my movies. Sean said he would have to get a license ($39) and re-burn the DVDs. I asked Sean if he could please call me once this was done so I would know that everything was good to go.Sean never called me. I even called the funeral home and Denise spoke to me and said Sean was driving, but she would have him call me within 30 minutes. No call.We showed up for the family viewing and the slide show was going on the monitors with the huge watermark on it. Sean left a message with the staff that was there stating he tried to get a license, but his credit card was declined. WTF? That was it? Sean could care less that he setup the video to display with a huge watermark. Even though he had the original file and could have set it up to display on the computer (since no sound was required for the viewing). He just went home, not caring that I would have to deal with this instead of focusing on my family and my father who passed away. Sean should be fired. He is definitely in the wrong business if he doesn't care about doing what he can to ensure the family can grieve and not have to worry about things the funeral home should have under control.I also feel Don failed miserably. He knew there were issues with our videos and he did not make sure they were taken care of before going home.So now, after the viewing I had to spend a couple of hours and additional money on software utilities to make burn DVD in the right format that will play in a DVD player instead of spending that time with my family after the viewing. Why? Because I could not rely on McAlister-Smith's employees to take care of such a simple task.I would give them ZERO stars if Google allowed me to. Thank you Don and Sean for adding stress to me personally during a time I relied on you to do your jobs and actually care (even just a little bit).I will also be reaching out to Todd Griffin, the General Manager, to let him know what a horrible experience I had.

The team here has helped my family so much. They did a great job and accommodated all my family needs during a very hard time. I appreciate all the support they gave us in planning a very difficult events in our lives. In the past three years I have loss three very important people to me. McAlister-Smith has helped me with all three of my family members. They went above and beyond and I am so grateful for everything they did for my family. They even reached out to make sure we were doing okay after sometime had past.

First impressions, I would not recommend this company to provide services. I was told to show up at 1300 for an appointment. No one at the reception desk desk. A young man and woman walked through the lobby and went to the back. Could hear them laughing and joking in the back but never bothered to ask if we needed help or were being helped. Will move on to someone else.

Alicia Hanna
We love McAlister-Smith in Goose Creek. I was just giving an account to my friend of the day my grandmother passed. They came to get her, and as they were taking her out the door, stopped so we could each have a moment with her to say good bye in my parent's home. When we went into her room, a rose and card were laying on her pillow. So sweet, with such attention to detail. Great, great people there!!
Katie Scott
