Customer Reviews Summary
Hartsdale Pet Cemetery & Cremation has received a mix of reviews, with many praising the compassionate service and serene environment during a difficult time. However, there are significant concerns regarding pricing transparency and customer service, particularly under new management, leading to a decline in the overall experience for some clients.

When a beloved pet passes away, it’s the perfect place to take them for burial or cremation . It’s a place where I found my broken heart could bring my deceased pets and find so many others seemed to feel as grief stricken as well. It’s an amazing place truly. Someone mentioned how expensive it is. For me, I don’t care. Peace of mind knowing my pet was cremated properly and respectful was worth every penny.

It is a somber experience walking between these headstones marking the final resting places of many faithful friends. We saw dogs, cats, lizards, birds, ferrets, and even a tiger. Many touching memorials.

As hard and difficult this time has been, my family and I are really glad to have chosen Hartsdale Pet Cemetery as the final resting place for my loyal friend SoCo.I would like to start thanking Eddie and his uncle Leonard for their empathy, patience, and caring attitude when I went there gloomed and sad to help me with the pre-need planning (cost, options, explaining the why of each item/cost) and to choose the perfect plot for my SoCo.Trevor, who on that stormy snowy Saturday in February, he took the time to walked me over the available spots. Never rushing always smiling and keeping conversations fun and light (respectfully) to keep at least for a short time away from the real dark reason I was there. And there it was, the perfect place for SoCo, just as she liked it: on a hill overlooking the cemetery, under the shades of 2 big trees.Brian was super helpful and very delicate in working and making suggestion for SoCo’s monument. Me, had the idea to express my love/sadness on her stone as if it was a book (you can assess that by how long this review is) but he was great in making me hit reality and making the perfect suggestion: keep it simple and different, and this line is different I think you should keep it. He made me see things that I couldn’t by the pain caused by the loss of my traveling partner.Patrick (also received my SoCo when I dropped her of) and the other gentleman (please forgive me I didn’t ask your name) that help him with the interment of my SoCo. From the handling of her Casket to the carry out to her plot, and the interment, to placing the roses on her grave that we brought.Saskia, who was so nice the first time I called there for information. She was very sweet and sensitive, providing me information over the phone, nothing shady like other places they don’t want to disclose information so easily or unless you are present, and quickly emailing the same for me to digest. Thank you for coordinating with Rippowam Animal Hospital, the receiving of SoCo that awful morning, without having me to be on the phone taking me away from SoCo’s last minutes.Thank you to the Hispanic gentleman who I never asked his name, who graciously showed me where I could park as it was not easy to figure out. This was the best indication that I was at the right place.Lastly, thank you for keeping her as natural as possible like you promised. She looked beautiful! and peaceful. Her casket was very nice/elegant and how you laid her inside of it was as if I did it myself. Thank you for thanking care of my girl.

Made one of the hardest times one of the easiest times. Many thanks to Ed and everyone at Hartsdale Pet Cemetery who make this special place so beautiful and warm. The pain does get easier and the comfort of knowing our pet is in one of the best resting grounds in the world is a big part of it. Thank you all so much. I strongly encourage anyone reading this review to go to/call Hartsdale, get information, and see for yourself why it is so special.- David and Darren

PLEASE DONT GO HERE…read my complete review in which i respond to their response and their response for further background/understanding.The area is beautiful and the staff were nice but you have one time to properly send off your loved ones…i drove two hours out my way because i wanted to do same day cremation and be present for the cremation so i could be sure im actually getting my pet back… I made all this clear and I was told it was fine I’d have to wait a little bit so they can help someone else so id be given the appropriate amount of time for my accommodations which was not an issue at all. I waited two hours and at this point im sitting in the office only for a box to be placed on the desk and they say you’re all set. This is for my best friend of 16 years. The heartbreak that ran through me only to be met with a sorry. There’s no apology that will give me that moment back. For that reason despite kindness I can’t recommend this location because no one should have to go through that when already grieving a pet.I will add rebuttal for the response that was beyond insensitive and untrue.i disclosed to the man i was with who placed ferbay(my dog) in the room for me to have alone time that I would like to be present for the cremation …he asked me if i wanted to be present for ferbays cremation i stated “yes, i would like to be there.” From what i understoood at the time this is the same Individual who cremated my pet. He stated my pet would remain refrigerated until it was time for us to cremate her.I was present during my appointment slot. I was early but lost on the property because there are no clear signs for the cemetery and the signal is not the best on the property. I was in the office 1245 instead of 1230 .After having alone time with my pet They requested i go get lunch at the plaza nearby so they could help the next person rather than them finishing my service and i can come back to be present for my ferbays cremation. Which i was understanding of after confirming my requests for my pet was being upheld. That same employee literally walked to show me how to follow the pathway behind the church to find the plaza.I only sat in my car after I came back from the plaza and returned to the office in which the blond woman at the desk informed me the person who would assist with the cremation was currently burying someone else’s pet on the property and told me to come back in another 45 mins/ 1 hr. During that time i sat in my car to let that time pass until i returned to the office again. When i came back again I sat in the office waiting to cremate my pet.Not once during either of the times of me being in that office did any of the employees mention my pet being cremated. Please read the reply and realize you should maybe consider another location prior to considering this one because obviously something is wrong here. I don’t like to make things about race but i will say several others requests were respected and individuals were treated more delicately while i paid the same money and my requests were not . I would’ve come back another day to have that time with my dog if time was actually an issue here but there seems to be a deeper problem.I just went here because i wanted to properly spend the final moments with my pet which was botched at this location. Also the only time anyone came to my car was to try to smooth things over after i was hysterically crying that my pet was cremated without my knowledge while im physically on the property and sitting in their office. Prior to that the only reason anyone came to my car was to compliment it because it’s a sports car and I’m a girl whose tiny and “mild mannered” so it’s surprising to see me in my car. Please consider other locations because i can understand a mistake but rather than just apologizing and accepting a mistake was made to lie and respond with a lie when i was robbed of the only time id be able to grieve my best friend pleaseeee consider somewhere else and you guys should be ashamed of yourselves

Truly one of the most spiritually beautiful and special places on earth. The energy is one of peace and serenity and you can feel the love emanating all around as you walk through the meticulously landscaped grounds. The animals brought here were loved and continue to be loved as evidenced by the heartfelt grave inscriptions and tended to plots. The staff were amazing and made a very difficult time easier on the soul. I like to imagine my baby happily running & playing with all the other animals and excitedly exploring the grounds until the day when I can finally hold him in my arms again.

Cremated my cat today. Unfortunately this place will no longer come recommended. As a veterinarian in the area who has given this place plenty of business, they no longer have any professional courtesy for those of us in the veterinary profession, but they will gladly accept our patients when the time comes. Obviously this will now change as I will send nobody here. Not to mention the woman at the desk is a cold fish that should not be receiving people in crisis or who are dealing with loss. When asked about the previous courtesy given to veterinarians she asked some ghost upstairs who refused to show face and just said we haven’t done that in years (I was here in 2019 and it was then). I was too upset with why I was there to argue, but place is not the same. Consider Final Gift next time. This place is just not worth it.One positive note, Carlos was very nice and courteous/sympathetic.

Yesterday I said my last good bye to my furry friend. I must say I had an amazing experience with this place I had my little dog Princess cremated. I had an appointment at 11:30 for her to be cremated before the process they had her nicely wrapped with a white sheet and in a box that look like a coffin for me to view her and say my goodbyes to her. She looked so beautiful likeShe was sleeping in Peace .May my little angel Rest In Peace in Heaven ...RIP Princess...Carlos along with another gentleman that was there made this very easy for me. They were very sympathetic and making this an easy process for me. Thank you Hartsdale crematory.🙏❤🐶 I will highly recommend them as they provide exceptional service.

A friend had shared what a wonderful experience they had here a few years ago, and so I knew this is where I wanted to go when my own dog died this week. The care and sensitivity they took with our dog to get him ready for cremation and throughout the process was outstanding. We couldn't have asked for more - and it gave us a huge peace of mind being able to be with him throughout the process. The cemetery is also a peaceful place to walk and see gravestones of dogs that have been there for more than 100 years.

Beautiful place to walk around, I imagine all the pets are resting peacefully here.

Our experience with the Hartsdale Pet Cemetery team was excellent. They made sure all the arrangements were taken care of so we could pay our last respects to our little dog Chelsea in peace. The viewing room is small - about 6-7 people can fit in it at a time. This was perfect for our group, but if you have more people, they will have to take turns going in. We were able to hold our little ceremony for Chelsea with no issues. The atmosphere outside the cemetery is serene; it is the type of place that you feels right to pay your last respects. Thank you once again for everything.

In 2001 we lost our Pepper Sebastian and went to Hartsdale for services I never forgot how Beautiful and kind the staff were then. This year we lost Cash then last week his sister Lola.I contacted Kristine and she did everything for us. It was amazing how she remembered us when we bought Lola last week. Patrick and Carlos took care of viewing and cremation, no words can express their kindness and caring to our family.Thank you all so much.God Bless Ms. Santiago and Family.

I pray that you may never lose a beloved pet, but if and when you do, Hartsdale Pet Cemetery will treat your furry friend with compassion and kindness. I appreciate the care they took with my baby Luna as our family said our last goodbye today. Even before deciding on a location, they provided me with information and sympathy over the phone and were expedient with my baby's pick-up at the hospital. Once there, they treated us like we were part of the family and gave us the right amount of space and comfort we needed during these difficult times. From the bottom of my heart, I thank all the staff that partook in today's final arrangement and I highly recommend this place for anyone searching.

Thank you for your compassion and thank you for caring for our little one. Your compassion for the animals during their last journey is exceptional! We appreciate you!

I took my dog for cremation. It took them less than 2 hours to give me a box with ashes. I opened the box and the ashes were inside a pre packaged plastic bag. It’s impossible they could have put hot ashes in a plastic bag so quickly. Do yourself a favor, stop your grieving for a day and cremate your pet yourself or bury it at home. Instead of paying over $500 for nothing. This place is another shady business.

I’m absolutely disgusted with how insensitive this customer service is. They’re a business yes but a disgusting attitude that make you sound like a burden or problem to them by simply asking questions is their problem. This is not something outrageous to have asked. To work in any memorial service you must show compassion and patience with the person dealing with personal lost. I’ve lost one pet 2 years ago and had the most understanding people handling me so I recommended them! I know someone else who had lost their pet and I wanted to help. I recommended this service due to the warm expertise I was given in the past and due to to the affiliation with AMC 61st and I am completely upset with how they spoke in response to normal inquiries over speaker phone with my friend grieving still. This place needs to be taught sensitivity training. This a service for pets yes! But that doesn’t mean you lose your core values in what the service is actually meant for!

We have had pets cremated here in the past and today unfortunately had to have my cat cremated. In the past, they were sympathetic and tried to make the experience bearable. They used to at least be a little comforting. After coming from the Emergency Vet we were greeted by a very uncaring blonde woman. After asking about the steep price increase and mentioning how we have been here numerous times in the last (not even a year ago), we were told it was under new management and basically brushed off that it hasn’t changed and this what the prices and packages have always been. She tried to brush us off like we were remembering wrong. It is a shame that this woman was the “face” of the cemetery is so uncaring and emotionless. During someone’s very sad time you would hope she would be a little more human and warm. At least, the man who took the paw print and did the cremation seemed to care and was empathetic. They only have one package, it used to go by weight and depending what urn or add ons you chose... it has gotten very expensive and you are just another dollar to them... such a pity.

Recently lost my pup yesterday and I called Hartsdale because I used their service less than two years ago for my older dog. This service I received before was Cremation. I was expecting the sweet woman I spoke to last time or anyone with a caring heart. I was treated terribly, with no regard to my loss. The price is even higher more than double of what I paid last time. Nothing has changed because they didnt want to describe what was additional for the price to go so high. I was transferred to a gentleman that did not care what I paid less than two years ago. I had the best experience last time and now this I’m truly heart broken. It’s one thing to raise price but make it clear on what it is and what is being given for this high price. So disappointed I will not recommend this place no more. COVID or not you should have some sort of sympathy and compassion when someone loses their dog. The only thing they made clear is they refused to pick up my dog unless I pay an additional 210 dollars, if I don’t they said to bring the body from the hospital on 62nd. My dog died in my arms and this is how u handle business. Sorry but u should never treat anyone like this, I’m putting 1 stars when it should be 0, new ownership destroyed this place.

My beautiful dog passed away at the end of December. Hartsdale picked her up at the hospital where she passed and cremated her. I went to pick up her ashes in person the first day they said she would be available. When I got home I looked at the clay paw print they did and immediately my heart broke again. The paw print was covered in debris. Because I was already so upset I decided not to call and let them know about this in case I was misplacing emotions.I have tried to heal from the pain of losing my dog. In late February I got an invoice that was highlighted at the bottom saying if I didn't pick her up, her ashes would be scattered. Instantly I was worried that they had given me the wrong remains. I called them this morning to ask what this invoice was about. I asked if it meant that I had been given the wrong dog, the woman sounded like that was completely ridiculous and shocked that I could ask that. Before even checking she told me it was because someone forgot to put that I had picked up my dog. Then she asked for my information and then she checked and then she said that's what it was. She did not apologize until I said that it was a very traumatizing mistake for someone to make.I decided to bring up the paw print. The woman said it was because my dog was dirty. My dog had been in a hospital for two days before she died and had recently been groomed. If she was dirty it would have been easy to wipe her paw but the people at Hartsdale had no concern about a dirty paw print and how that final memory of my dog would look. I asked her why nobody had wiped her paw and was told they don't touch the paw print after it's taken because it would mess up the print. This woman was clearly listening to respond instead of listening to understand. I reiterated my question, why didn't they wipe my dog's paw before taking the print. She had no answer and frustratedly said she was sorry. I told her I don't believe that she is and to have a nice day.The people at Hartsdale put zero effort into any portion of my experience with them. The invoice was callous (It did not even list the correct services, making me doubt more and more that I had the correct remains) and should never have been sent and the customer service is severely lacking.

I had to put my 18 year old cat Oliver down a month ago. He became sick very suddenly, stopped eating and began hiding. The day after I had him put down, I started calling around to make the arrangements to not only have Oliver cremated, but to also ask for an ink paw print so that I could have it tattooed on myself. I called one establishment in Brooklyn and it felt like we were discussing an oil change. What won me over with Hartsdale was the compassionate customer service that was provided to me from Carlos. He explained everything to me and even was incredibly honest about them being a work in progress with the ink paw print (they gave me 21 ink prints and they were amazing). Carlos picked up Oliver, handled his prints, his cremation and even handed me the bag with his little urn and name plate. They are such lovely people and I highly recommend them.

One star for returning the ashes. Our beloved Schnauzer passed away after 12 years in our family. We were all deeply distraught and thought Hartsdale would be sensitive and helpful. We ordered a beautiful cherrywood urn over the phone and stated that we wanted the ashes put inside. When our ashes arrived, I opened the shipping box to find an invoice envelope staring me in the face. As I dug deeper to find my pet's remains, I saw no wooden box. Instead, the ashes were wrapped in a plastic bag and tissue paper and put in a cheap tin box. The invoice charged for shipping and the cost of the urn (as well as the cremation). We called Hartsdale and were told that they had forgotten to send the urn due to an "oversight". We are still being charged for their less than mediocre services. This is disrespectful, insensitive, and quite frankly... Unforgivable. I am deeply disappointed and will never use this service again.

I rarely write reviews, so that underscores how strongly I feel about this one. Over the last two months I have lost both of my guinea pigs (who were ESAs) and had both of them cremated at Hartsdale and hand-delivered back to me in NYC. Each staff member I have interacted with have been so kind, caring and friendly during these difficult months and I am so grateful for their compassion.

Very special place. Family owned since 1974’ and it shows; they are warm, organized, and deeply committed to making your grieving process that much easier. It also helps that even though the office is closed on Sundays, they still open the cemetery to allow visitors entry.Shout outs to the groundskeepers who are also very friendly and kind.

Its painful to write a review at this time. I lost my beloved Cleo on 7/6/20. 2 days later we were at the cemetery. Because of social distacing and bookings we couldnt do it the same day. The staff was great because we were already on our way and didnt expect we couldnt do it. Ince we arrived, we were able to let her stay overnight at the morgue. The following day we had an outside vigil for her where we were able to stay with her before cremation. We stayed about 15 mins and while so painful to see her in a deep sleep, I knew she was 13 yrs old and was recently diagnosed with congestive heart failure in April 2020. The staff was very nice and let us take our time. While I hurt, I will always know we sent her off in the best possible way we could. The total service was almost 500dls. The price was reasonable too.

I have an amazing experience with this place I had my little dog PeeWee cremated and I drop off so they could hold him until the next day I had an appointment at 10:30 for him to be cremated. When I went back the next day they had him nicely wrap with a white sheet and in a box that look like a coffin for me to view him and say my goodbyes to him and when I seen him he look so beautiful like he was sleeping in Peace .May my little angel Rest In Peace in Heaven ...RIP PEEWEE ...The guy that there was amazing nice person but I never got his name .

This pet thrown to the Heavens has been around for over a 100 years. It is certainly is the right place for those who love animals and want to see them burried in the right place and honored forever. They have mausoleums too. It's certainly touching to see how far people will go to remember their pets. Our friends have operated this family owned business since its inception. It even has a small funeral parlor so you can say good bye to your animal one last time. My family has four animals buried here, 4 dogs. Also, my Godparents has the most intelligent Dog I've ever met in my life resting here as well. 'Peppi!' God bring to Heaven our beloved friends. If you have a desire to bury your animal with some dignity, try this pet cemetery. Cheers.

Under the new ownership the crematory has become prohibitively expensive, the staff no longer exudes comfort and trust, and the grounds do not seem to be taken care of as well as they used to be (there was an unevenness in one of the walkways and the chrysanthemums needed watering). It seems to be operating solely on money interests. It's a shame, given it is such an iconic, unique place that used to feel like a sanctuary.

I live in Connecticut, and had my beloved cat put to sleep due to the infirmities of old age. He came to me as a stray, and I took him in. Living in a vast wooded area, people wood drop off their cats, hoping that they would survive in the wild. One day, not so very long ago, "Pud" showed up cold and hungry, so I had no choice. At first he was very difficult to deal with, apparently from being feral for a long time. It took about a year before he was friendly enough to let inside, to be left alone, petted, sleep with us, etc. When his time came, I took him to the vet, located in Durham, CT., andasked that he be cremated. The remains were sent to Hartsdale Pet Cemetery for cremation, cremated, and returned to me in a painted, candy decorated, steel "hard candy" can. I was furious. My German Shepard is buried at Hartsdale so I was really up-set at such poor treatment. Putting the remains of a beloved pet in a hand candy steel can is an affront to the animal's dignity. If this had been done in my presence, my reaction would have been quite severe. My previous cat was cremated a year earlier by Peiper Olson, located in Middletown, CT. Her remains were returned to me in a nice mahogany box, with an inscription, at half the cost.I intend to have my ashes, and both of theirs, spread at the same time and place, by my wife. The place has not been decided upon, but I am sure that she will pick the appropriate location for the three of us.I look forward every day to the three of us being reunited with my German Shepard. I just pray that there is an after-life, as the four of us will be reunited forever, Then we have to wait for my wife. The intervening period will be most enjoyable.Good-bye, and pray for your beloved pet. We can only hope for a future reunion as life on earth with them was most enjoyable.

Review Date; 4-15-2022I gave a call a moment ago. I gave my 1st name right away. The man who answered the phone did not offer any self identification.I found him to be instantly Cold and Lacking Compassion.I only talked for like 45 seconds trying to explain I’m sure they don’t handle this but, I’m looking for a human cemetery that allows full body Burials of people and pets.In so many words, he let me know they have NO interest In anything not directly related to their business.I also told him that I’ve been working on this often on for over 30 years!Basically told me, wasn’t his problem, no interest in helping me, no ideas no suggestions other than to call every cemetery in New England one by one. Cold, heartless, and very unfriendly. I would say this person was indifferent at best. Scott M.

I picked up my beloved Baby’s ashes earlier today. They placed her ashes in a black container covered in roses. My family flower is the rose. And she was a beautiful black doggy. They didn’t know that. What a happy coincidence! Anyway, Beautiful place.

Kind, caring, and compassionate. They hand delivered our sweet fur baby’s ashes back to us. We also got an imprint of his paw which is helping to fill the hole in my heart.

I was advised my pet's ashes would be scattered at Hartsdale Pet Cemetery by my Vet. It turned out that they were not; instead, I was advised after the fact, that they were placed in Wappingers Falls. After spending quite a bit of time with the owners via email and phone re: inaccuracies on their website and what was being advised to Veterinarians, I was advised they would not alert Vets to the changes that took place because it would impact their business adversely. Pet Owners and Vets should be aware of this. It's not fair to lie to those who are grieving the loss of a pet. Although I could have visited Hartsdale Pet Cemetery where I thought her remains would be, I have no option to visit Wappingers Falls. This is wrong, and the Hartsdale Pet Cemetery Owners should be ashamed of themselves for putting profits over people.

Lee West

Priscianna Soto
Kim Zwisdak

Alexander Kuravsky
