Our little family was nearly a week out of having to put our elderly and sick cat down, and when we decided it was time to welcome another cat into our home our first stop was the Humane Society. We originally planned on going around and seeing who was available, but the customer service we received from the lovely volunteers and other workers at the Humane Society convinced us this was the place we needed to be. They were knowledgeable about each and every cat, worked with our family to ensure we brought the best fit home, and sent us off with resources and clear instructions on what we needed to do to keep our new kittens safe and healthy. Would highly reccomend!

They were very friendly and professional. I was walked through the adoption process and able to adopt two wonderful dogs. They also offer continued assistance if needed to make sure both pets and owners are comfortable and happy. Gotti and Nala are doing great.

I took my 8 month old puppy Camden here to get spayed. I cannot recommend them enough! Staff exceeded my expectations with how kind, helpful and knowledgeable they were! I felt so comfortable leaving Camden in their care — and a bonus that this was the most affordable option around! I called several local vets all quoted at least $800 to get her spayed. So A++++ care for a fraction of the price! She even came back with her nails trimmed which made my day!!!!

My experience with the Baltimore Humane Society was the worse, I wanted to get two cat those people did a background check on me and found a domestic violence case against me I didn't even know I had that apparently my ex-husband took out on me because I had a restraining order on him this happened years ago like 2006 apparently and nothing came out of it because I didn't even know I had it on my record and if the Lord's will I will be going to get it expunged off of my record because I have never harm anybody or anything in my life anyway they would not give me the cats because of it so I went to Barc here in Baltimore they give me no problem I did a application, visit with the cats and the next day got a call that they had been spayed and neutered and I was able to bring my cats home two beautiful cats,Mecca and MadinaI'm sure that the cats I wanted to get from the Humane Society are still there that's a shame because they could have had a loving home!

I just went to the Baltimore Humane Society on Nicodemus Road in Reisterstown. My wife and I were interviewing a dog for adoption. This dog, Junior, looks like a Yorkshire Terrier, but his parentage is uncertain since he was taken in by the facility as a stray. The place is clean and neat. They have a cat building and a dog building. Everything looks nice, and there aren't any bad smells. The people are friendly. Each of their client animals has a name. There are volunteers who come to play with the animals. It's a great place to go to adopt a new fur baby.

They will break your heart!Wouldn’t even hold a cat for a couple days so my eight year old daughter could have the kitten she loved. My dog at home was a couple weeks past due on his rabies shot. We had an appointment scheduled for him to get it. They were zero appointments we could’ve gotten sooner. I called three different vets. I would have put a deposit down on the cat. They were completely unwilling to work with us and broke my daughter’s heart!Response:Your response would make total sense if I wasn’t willing to put down a full payment for the kitten immediately as well as add an extra donation, which would allow you to take care of more animals. All just to hold her for a couple of days. We have an appointment for the dog already, they just can’t get us in any faster.I will not put my daughter through this heartbreak again.

I adopted my cat Monroe almost 2 months ago and I couldn’t be happier! I had a great experience with adopting, everyone there was super sweet and helpful! Thank you for helping me find my best friend :)

I visited today, interested in adopting a cat or kitten and in volunteering. Initially, there was no one at the front desk where people sign in. After signing in, I went to the cat area, but the lady behind the desk hardly acknowledged me while she was on her computer. As the only visitor in the building, I expected at least some information about the cats.I understand it's Cyber Monday and you might be busy with online deals, but those bargains can wait for about 10-15 minutes—they're not going anywhere.

We recently adopted our sweet kitten Miche from the Humane Society and couldn't be happier! They were a breeze to work with. Everyone we spoke to was so kind and helpful, and their communication was great. We put in an application for him on Thursday 4th of July and brought him home on Friday. Thank you!!

Amazing people. I adopted Jon Snow from there about 5 years ago, and I also go back for his shots. I just got my newest kitten Milo neutered, and he got his shots there as well. I appreciate everything the staff has done for me as well as how friendly and loving they are with the pets.

In these times when vets are unreasonably high in their prices, we are thankful to have this place that cares for our babies just as well, if not better. Over $600 to have a 12 lb dog spayed is unbelievable. Thanks for being there for us!!Also, sparkles was not stressed at all in this environment. She also sends her thanks..After my baby was spayed here, she is doing so beautifully. The people here are better than any vet I have ever been to. I can't tell u enough how much I appreciate this dog care facility. In these crunch times we are living in, we are evermore thankful to have them. I intend to follow up with their clinic for well dogs so as to keep my dear baby healthy. Thank u ever so much. Luv u!

They took such good care of my baby when he was neutered! They explained every part of the day and I could tell they took care of him while he was there!! If you need to spay or neuter your pet! BHS is the place to go!

I was very upset when I had to surrender my kitten, but when I got there I could feel the love all the employees had for every animal there. I knew she would be safe and treated well. I know in my heart they will find a good home for her.

We had the best experience adopting our cat Bubbles. The process was fairly easy. She came to our home and has immediately become part of the family. This is our first pet, and the Humane society is a great help with helpful resources for us.

I got my first pet snowball from Baltimore Humane Society. The staff was so nice and friendly, but I don't know maybe I don't have luck ...after adopting between one month my Snowball passed away because of the heart failure ! that makes my world upside down!!!!

I started volunteering at the Baltimore Humane Society almost a year ago and it has been such a fun and rewarding experience for me. I decided to become a volunteer to honor the life of my sweet doggy Prince, who was laid to rest in December 2021. I needed a place to redirect my love and gain the strength to adopt another dog.I volunteer as a dog walker and cat socialize there once a week and it really doesn’t feel like work at all. All the staff and volunteers are friendly, welcoming, and extremely helpful. This is also one of the cleanest shelters I’ve ever visited in my life. The staff and volunteers all do a great job of taking care of their animals and really truly want nothing more but to find every animal that enters their doors a loving furever home. I’m grateful to be apart of this mission and happy again…thanks to this experience.

They were so nice, patient, and thorough! The place was very clean and the staff was very professional. It is very obvious that they truly care for the animals and screen so that they get to go to a good home. They took the time to go over everything and offer so much support, even after the adoption. We are very grateful for our rescue from the lovely people at the Baltimore Humane Society!!!

Great adoption experience, counselors were awesome and adopted a kitty within 24 hours. They run specials often, their having a $25 adoption fee this weekend (July 17,2021) but if you miss this one, they have them often. Also if you're low income in Baltimore city they waive most of the adoption fees.

Love this place. The grounds were beautiful & the inside was clean & well maintained. The woman who took care of my cat was friendly & really seemed like she liked her job. So did the people who gave my cat his shots. Had a great experience. Nothing bad to say at all. Everything was great.

We worked with Veronica after our fur baby passed and I am so happy I found this place. Her and her assistant were both great. Although there were some minor inconveniences like never getting the clay paw prints and waiting to hear back about the arrival of the headstone we ordered, I am still satisfied with my experience working with them. They were very friendly and kind and I am happy to know my angel is resting at peace here. The cemetery itself is gorgeous, even in the winter so I can’t wait to see what it will look like in the spring and summer. Thank you for all your help Veronica! I am sure Leo appreciates it too.

Please Adopt . So many beautiful animals need a loving home. Also they have waived adoption fees on certain days and animals. They have a variety of animals who need your love.

Good customer service, and really supportive and patient people they helped perform a surgery on my Bailey. So far its been okay and hes just a bit tired 😅I highly reccomend going here as well because they have all kinds of services aside from medical such as: adoption, pet graves, and pet training as well.

I love this place. The staff is very friendly. You can tell they all truly love the animals. They spay and neuter at no extra cost and they gave us a starter kit that included a leash and food. The one thing that I would request that they start to do is groom and wash. When my pup got here they said he had feces on him they said they hosed him off but a monthly wash for the dogs would be nice.

I couldn’t be happier with the services provided to my sweet Hoagie Boy! He went in for a neuter and rabies vaccine; when I picked him up I was assured that he had done well and there were no complications. I was given post-op instructions and the sweet lady at the desk went over all necessary information as well. 24 hours later Hoagie is a happy and normal boy, and his surg site is healing nicely. The price was also incredibly affordable especially when compared to that of his primary vet. Thank you so much on behalf of me and Mr. Hoagie :)

We just adopted a dog from here. Filled out the application online and scheduled an appointment to come look at dogs . They helped me pick a dog that would fit my family’s needs. We were able to score some excellent items from the bargain bins as well.Overall process was easy and even got sent home with a small amount of Diamond’s food for her transition into a home .**Update**We had to rerun the Dog due to her high aggression towards our cat. I live in an apartment not a house so it was impossible to do a two week isolation between the two. The employees seemed mad that we didn’t stick it out two full weeks but I have a toddler in the home . Only had the dog about 5 days . We hope she finds a home without a cat . And for anyone curious .. no you don’t get the adoption fee money back.

This no-kill shelter is a great organization! Every time I visited the kennels and cages were nicely kept. The staff are friendly and really helpful. We recently adopted a puppy. We received lots of information, had our questions answered, and we could not be happier with the experience.

This is Jolene.. our baby! This place is amazing and so are the people. Thank you to everyone for the best dog I have EVER had.
Maddy Sebelist
i was incredibly disappointed in this place. i feel as if an animal shelter should be welcoming as most of us come here to either interact with dogs and/or adopt them. this place was very much the opposite of that. you’re lucky if you can even look at a dog without an employee watching your every move as if it’s even possible to steal a dog that’s in a locked cage with cameras. most of us are not that much of an idiot. not only that but the employees in the dog room and at the adoption center said not a single word to us and instead watched our every move as i walked the dog room which is already incredibly small. if businesses have the option to come and just look at dogs, there needs to at least be trust that someone is not gonna steal a dog otherwise that shouldn’t be an option. in all i felt incredibly unwelcomed and i will not be recommending nor will i be returning.

To say that this place is frustrating is an understatement. I found a stray kitten that was clean and cute, he just had no home. I absolutely fell in love with him but soon realized I could not fully provide him what he needs and wants. However, I wanted to give this baby kitten a fighting chance at giving him a loving home with a family that could give him the world. I saw the reviews of this place and thought this place was perfect. I walked in 2 minutes after closing to give him to them and they turned him away because he’s a stray. This business claims to love their animals unconditionally and as soon as a kitten needs a new home, they turn him away. I was referred to the Baltimore County Animal Services. I did not feel comfortable giving him to them. Nowhere on the website nor on the automated phone services does it say they can’t take strays. And as far as the phone services go for this business, it was ridiculous. I called numerous times 20 minutes before closing to ask if it was okay if i brought a stray a couple minutes late after their closing time. I was met with their on ridiculous automated machine. You know, the one that says “Press 1 for this service, Press 2 for the next Service…” So on, so forth. I pressed number 2 for surrenders because there was no option for strays and nothing happened. The automated machine just kept talking and I was never directed to another line or an actual employee that worked there for help. How can you say you care about these animals and then turn one away? It was extremely disappointing and now I have to scramble to find this baby a safe home. I NEVER write reviews for anything but this particular situation got to me because I am an ACTUAL animal lover. Not some fake, self-proclaimed one. If you claim to love animals, you should love, care, and take in ALL animals, not pick and choose the ones you like and throw the rest out to another business.

The Humane Society is a wonderful organization. The staff is always super helpful, friendly and professional. Most of all, they take great care of the animals and devote their time and love to supporting the animals. I really enjoy volunteering there and encourage others to do so. It’s a rewarding experience.

The staff was great with my two kittens. It was inexpensive and fast. They gave you instructions verbally and in writing to care for my kittens after their procedure. I highly recommend!

I was referred to. Veronica to help me with my plans for burying my furbaby. She is well suited for her job. She is patient empathic and kindI decided to bury my pet as I was really distressed with the idea of cremation. My daughter and I drove up to a beautiful area outside Baltimore proper. VeronicaArranged it that we could see our baby one more time.We said prayers and buried him in his blanket with his favorite toys....we scattered rose petals...and said our goodbyes. This experience turned out much better than I could have dreamed of....I highly recommend this facility.

Amazing staff and services. My family had to say goodbye to our eldest cat recently and used the Humane Society for cremation. Can't say enough good things about Veronica. An absolute joy in a very difficult time. She displayed compassion and answered every possible question. Above and beyond what I expected.

I love this Place. There so tentive to the animals. They have alot of land for the animals. And they have a pet cemetery. The grounds are so beautiful.

I've been going here for 8 years and they are the kindest and most accomplished vets in my opinion! They are amazing with the animals and just great overall!

This place is definitely the best shelter we have ever visited. ❤ we were able to walk in and meet with several dogs and take a slight tour. Although we had to pass on the dog we wanted 🥲 might come back and adopt a rabbit in the near future. The staff was so friendly including the very sweet young lady who showed us the dogs (I forgot her name!) But she was AMAZING 👏🏾. Definitely a great experience all around. We were able to learn about the pets background and that they are given medical check ups and even behavioral analysis which put me so at ease about adopting.Update: 2024- we adopted a cat named Selma yesterday 😀

I adopted my bestfriend here her name is Honey formally known as ladybug We love her so much as she is doing well ❤️

Adopted a Dog from here. And he was the sweetest boy EVER! And I did have a wonderful experience with him. But the humane society in itself I did not. I was never informed that my dog had limes and needed prescription medication. (Where that wouldn’t have been a full problem, because I did LOVE my dog) it would have be helpful to know before I fully adopted him. Not knowing this I took him to the vet about 2 weeks into having him and found this information out. He ended up passing away because of this. I just wish they would have told me before I left so I could have gotten him his medicine sooner.

When our 15-year-old beloved Ginger cat passed away we chose the Baltimore humane society to handle his cremation. Of course we were extremely upset but everyone we spoke with or saw was incredibly kind. The only negative that I had was that there was a wasp nest outside the building where we went to pick up the ashes. I'm allergic to wasps so that made me a little nervous. That was a few years ago though, so someone's probably taken care of it.

Very good service for spay and neuter. Just keep in mind that the price they quote on the phone is not the total price when you get there. Surprise, surprise additional fees for relaxation pills and pain pills and cone to keep them from licking
Michael Pomraning
Excellent service, and helped me find my new cat Minnie!

Brought our 6-month old puppy to be spayed. Scheduling, drop-off, and pick-up were easy and straight forward. At drop-off, we were offered seditive medication to help keep our puppy calm while she was healing, which was very helpful. Our puppy healed quickly with no issues, and you can barely see the scar. Highly recommend Baltimore Humane Society for spay/neuter service!

Tried adopting a cat from here before and they got judgemental about me letting the other cat i have outside with me and i said if the cat i adopted wanted to go outside with me id let it bc they would be coming inside with me when i head in after i workout (yes i have fences and ones that arent climbable) but hey make an animal miss out on a loving home over some weird feelings i guess

They were really helpful in guiding me towards the perfect cat for me and my family. We love our Zoë so much!

This is a wonderful place if your looking to adopt a dog or cat. They really take care of all the animals and the folks who work there are always so nice. The volunteers that work there are also very very nice. Our family adopted a dog see pictures. He is wonderful.

This no-kill shelter is a great organization! Every time I visited the kennels and cages were nicely kept. The staff are friendly and really helpful. We recently adopted a puppy. We received lots of information, had our questions answered, and we could not be happier with the experience.

I have adopted two of my cats from BHS and am very happy with the process. The facility is clean and the staff are helpful and grateful for any donations of either money or goods. The animals are well cared for.

Mary Snyder
Jazzy and Reds now have a furrever home! The Humane Society's super through application process made me feel confident that they would not allow their animals to go i to just any home. Clean and COVID conscious.
Andrew L
They take amazing care of all of the foster animals. And a very clean facility as well. Everybody there is so nice.
Deanna Barrett
What a great staff. I knew just who I wanted to adopt but the staff wanted to make sure that she would be the best option for our home. I was not rushed in my decision. Everyone was so nice and helpful. They knew everything you could think of about all the animals. We adopted a cat that was there since October. She was not happy to see another carrier but everyone worked together to get her comfortable with getting in it. We are in the process of introducing her to her new sister. So happy and thankful.
Rosalind Clemons
The people who work here are very nice. Alicia and i think her name is Rosa, have been the upmost best. The facility looks clean, the animals look healthy and well taken care of

We recently lost our dog which is terrible to go through. The Humane Society made it possible to have Charlie cremated and arranged for us to spend time with him to say our final goodbye. He was brushed out and in a blanket looking so happy and peaceful. We will be thankful forever for their care. They allowed us to even have his favorite toy go with him! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

We were greeted right away. They even held the door and walked us through the easy sign in. We were guided to the area that we were interested in. Someone one checked on us and showed us the kitten pair we were looking at. They had an easy and yet thorough application process. It prides me in them being serious finding these beautiful animals a fit home. I can't wait to hear back about the twins we applied for. If we ever need to extend the family again. We will be going back here.

I adopted the smartest most loyal dog out of there 25 years ago. I have owned many good dogs but he was the best. The place is much cleaner and the animals are even better cared for now. It is a beautiful spot out in the countryside of Reisterstown. Also have a couple of dogs permanently resting on the grounds.

We love our Bella-Rose.Thank you for loving her and keeping her safe, healthy and happy until God brought us together.

You can tell that the people here really care about the animals and make sure that they go to great homes. I just recently got a six year old cat from them. The whole place is incredibly clean and organized. I could not be more happy with my whole experience here.

The BHS is so lovely. The staff are kind and my dog is always smiling going in and coming out when getting vaccines. It is clean inside and out. The grounds are beautifully kept. I appreciate everyone who keeps this place running so that people can have access to affordable pet care. Thank you BHS for always taking great care of my dog!

I decided to stop by some local shelters on Monday and came across the Baltimore Humane Society. As soon as I walked in the door I was greeted by many volunteers and staff. I ended up following in love with one of the cats and decided to put in an application. The process was easy and smooth and everyone was so friendly and helpful throughout it. I am so happy to have adopted my first cat and even happier that I got him from some a welcoming place. I highly recommend that if you are ever interested in adopting a cat or dog to stop by!

The animals at BHS are obviously lovingly cared for. We had no problems filling out the online application form. We had the opportunity to meet the cat we inquired about in a large room that was clean and quiet. The adoption process was smooth and efficient (they did check our references, which is nice to know), and our new cat had his check-out from the vet and was ready to go at the promised time. At pick-up, the staff went through the contract thoroughly. Best of all, we have a wonderful new member of our family!
Deborah Miller
Clean, neat, oderly, cages well set-up, runs smoothly and organized. Staff was very friendly, warm, responsive in communication. The staff was good at giving info on the animals including relevent background information. Check ahead, but I'm pretty sure families with children can come, with adequate parental and staff supervision. I enjoyed seeing and interacting with some animals. They have a pet cemetery too, on the grounds, that I was surprised to see.

Recently adopted a sweet pup! The whole process was very smooth. The staff were really knowledgeable about the dogs on their care, which is very impressive, as there are so many in and out. I was also very impressed with how they conduct dog introductions; that was the part I was most worried about, and they were total pros!

We recently visited in the hopes of adopting a cat. The facility is super clean and well maintained. The animals are well taken care of, with plenty of volunteers as well to give the animals the attention they need. The staff is super well informed and they great care of the animals. They also provide tons of information about the pet you are adopting and provide recommendations as well as tips for proper care.I would recommend going during the weekday versus the busy weekend, as obviously because of the rush the volunteers and staff have many tasks they need to complete on top of the visitors. We did wind up adopting Inky, who is doing great in his new home! Thank you BHS!
Terri Fox
Staff were friendly and helpful. Adoption process was easy. I was so excited to get a call that afternoon and to find out that the two kittens I was interested were going to come home with me. Pick-up was easy. Medical records were provided and kittens are adjusting well to their new home. Thank you!

The staff here is fantastic. Very helpful, and courteous. The vet informed us of a health issue with the “first choice” cat. We asked about Buddy Boy and they were happy to oblige. Great experience.Buddy Boy wasted no time making himself at home. Here he is only a few hours after bringing him home.

Due to my sweet, shy, senior cat, I visited multiple animal rescues to find the most compatible companion for her. Through no fault of their own, these lovely senior cats did not have the temperament that so was necessary for a suitable match. My friend recommended the Baltimore Humane Society founded in 1927 by the remarkable Elsie Seeger Barton. We reviewed their website and there he was…… Captain Lil Cat. I read his description and he seemed perfect. I completed the easy online application and a few days later, I departed work early to meet him. It was simply a match made in heaven and he is now home with me. I now have two senior cats who adore one another. My experience with the Baltimore Humane Society was exceptional from beginning to end. The facility is lovely, clean, pleasant and bright and sunny. The staff is caring and answer any questions that you may have. They work with you. When I visited Captain Lil Cat, a wonderful employee sat with us in a large room and was most kind and helpful. They really allow you to spend time with your potential companion. The grounds surrounding the facility are lovely. Every animal is well taken care of by exceptional employees and volunteers. They take the time to learn the animal’s personality which is key to finding a forever home. I highly recommend the Baltimore Humane Society and I hope that you will consider adopting from them as well as consider adopting a middle-aged / senior companion. They are exceptional.

Got both of my cats spayed here. Amazing crew of people. They took such good care of my babies. They even put a free blanket and warm rice bag in the carrier because one of the cats was cold and shaking. I am grateful you guys exist!

Thank you so much Baltimore Humane! We are adopting a rabbit from here and unlike some other shelters, they are very knowledgeable about their needs. Although it's not state-of-the-art, it's pretty dang good. I love how much love these animals are given, despite their past, and urge them to keep doing amazing!Edit: We have gotten our rabbit and were thrilled by the adoption process! It makes it so that only responsible owners can adopt. I love our rabbit so much; thanks Baltimore!

I adopted a cat from the Humane society over the course of the last two weeks. Very easy, thorough process on their part. I now have a beautiful cat who they nursed the ear infection out of. Would definitely recommend.

Came in looking for a dog, didn't see anything in the kennel that seemed like a good fit. Spoke to the ladies working the dog center that day and they were extremely helpful and made some great recommendations! Brought out a dog that was In another building and we're now setting up a dog to dog meet to see if he would be a good fit! Super friendly staff, very knowledgeable about the dogs they had and their personalities. Even if this one doesn't work out, I will definitely be a returning customer!

I loved my experience there and would advise anyone to go there if they are interested in getting a pet.

I love that the rabies vaccine free for low incomes, with sterilization of your pet. The 2nd vaccine for my cat is only $12! If you're not low income, then their services are still the cheapest in Baltimore County, as long as you're a resident of Baltimore County, and the people who work there are super friendly and remember your pets name at subsequent visits!

Clean and staff very knowledgeable about the dogs that are in their care. My Grandaughter is feeling an empty nest syndrome since her older sisters are in college , and finds herself alone. She is only 9, but knows the responsibility of caring for an animal. The staff there helped in guiding her to find the specific breed she was looking for. Thankypu for educating her.

Everyone is friendly, helpful and thoroughly knowledgeable. Adoptions are handled in an organized and professional manner. Families are sent home with a folder of helpful information along with their new pet. We were very impressed. We love our new dog, Octavia.

We had a great experience adopting our family pet. Madeline is great at what she does with the adoptions. She was very informative and really helped us get our dog settled into our home. BHS does a great job at finding the right pet for your family and lifestyle. You can tell everyone their loves what they do and really value all the animals.

They care about their animals because they keep a clean place. Where they are located is beautiful and you can sometimes find the staff walking the dogs. Last year when I lost my cat and didn't know where I could take her to be cremated and make sure she was gone, they helped me. They were very caring and empathetic to my situation.

I used to volunteer here regularly a couple years ago. It was a wonderful place to volunteer and get service learning/community service hours! This place has cats, dogs, rabbits, and randomly other small animals. It is a very clean place and people can feed the animals to help socialize them.I stopped visiting this place after I moved away from Baltimore, but I still enjoy reading their email newsletters. My friends and I donated quite a bit of money to the Baltimore Humane Society through a Facebook fundraiser in November. However, we never received any confirmation that our donation was received. I hope you got our money. Receipt of acknowledgement would definitely boost fundraising efforts (at least from me).

Everyone is so nice and informative. I love the adoption process. It shows they care. We love stormi, thank you for the recommendation.

Took my kitten here to get spayed and shots. Staff was attentive and polite. With the new covid rules it actually seemed more organized then usual. You simply wait in your car and they come out to you and take payment and your pet, instead of a bunch of people crowded into the waiting room waiting for their pet.

Had an amazing adoption experience recently. All of the dogs are so well taken care of and the property is beautiful! We were so lucky to be able to provide a forever home for one lucky pup. The choice was hard! Thank you to all of the volunteers who make the Baltimore Humane Society so great!!Positive Responsiveness, Reliability, Quality, Professionalism, Value …More

Thank you!

They took really good care of my baby. The price was reasonable compared to what I spend on my other baby that has a wellness plan. The staff is A👏MAZ👏ING! I will definitely go back when needed
Dennis Slowik
The staff here is fantastic. Very helpful, and courteous. The vet informed us of a health issue with the “first choice” cat. We asked about Buddy Boy and they were happy to oblige. Great experience.Buddy Boy wasted no time making himself at home. Here he is only a few hours after bringing him home.

Animals appear well taken care of. However, when I visited recently with a friend, the initial volunteer who helped us was abrasive and dismissive and outright strange. Luckily another volunteer who was much more sociable stepped in to help us. But it was still odd that they wouldn't allow my friend, who was looking to adopt a pet cat, to actually hold the cat or go to one of the rooms to interact with it. I volunteered at the MDSPCA in Hampden for years and I never would have treated potential adopters as we were treated. Like I said, the animals look well taken care of but the humans were off.

I adopted my beautiful puppy from there in 2003. She became part of my family for 17 1/2 years until she had to be put to sleep last March. They definitely placed her in my forever home! My wife and I decided to adopt a dog from the Baltimore Humane Society. The experience was wonderful. The staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. The adoption process was very thorough and informative. The staff were dedicated to the welfare of the animals and exhibited their concern throughout our interview. Our new family member is a 2 year old shitzu and looks like a little wookie. He is a wonderful companion and a delight for both of us.

We adopted Patch yesterday and he's such a good boy. He has settled right in and giving lots of snuggles and kisses. We had a great experience at the shelter. Everyone was so helpful and encouraging, and the staff was able to answer all my concerns. Thanks for the great experience and thanks for all you do for pets!

What a phenomenal experience!!!! We had to put our 10 year old cat to sleep due to a blood clot/stroke in the morning and later that same day, we went to the Humane Society's Adoption Center to look for another cat who can use our love. From the time we walked in and until we left, we were treated as if we were royalty. Frannie showed us 3 cats we identified as wishing to see and off we went into a special visiting room with each cat. Just watching how Frannie handled each cat, taking the cat from its condo putting it into the carrier, etc. was a joy to behold. She was so very gentle and treated each one as if it was her own.We filled out an application and would decide which of the 3 we wanted by the next morning. One of the three had FIV and Chelsea gave us info on this virus and chatted with us about it. Home we went discussing which of the 3 ( a 1 year old Pumpkin Spice, a 4year old Garfield or a 9 year old Muggy) we wanted. The next morning we had our decision and later that day our new cat was coming home. Cyndi helped us with the paperwork (our contract, cat's portfolio, etc.) and Claudia went to the condo and picked up our Pumpkin Spice. She helped me obtain his litter which we wanted to help him adjust, she placed him in our carrier with his towel he used to sleep with under his bed, and she took him out to the car for me. WHAT SERVICE!!!Our new cat is a doll....and watching how the staff handled the cats...it is no wonder the cats are happy which in turn makes them happy for us new owners.THANK YOU EVERYONE for bringing joy back into our lives!!!!Sharyn and Ed Doyle

Great experience fostering for a year then adopting our dog from there. Staff was friendly and helpful throughout the entire process. Thanks to the medical fund, 8 year old Missy is running around like a puppy again!

DO NOT FOSTER TO ADOPT!!! THIS PLACE IS NOT HUMANE ALL THEY CARE ABOUT IS MONEY!I have a 2 year old chihuahua who is currently not spayed. When I went to this facility they showed me the dogs that were ready to be adopted as well as some puppies. Of course I fell in love with the puppies, who wouldn't, and that's when they informed me because of their age they were not neutered as yet and I had to come back to do so and during that period it would be a foster to adopt situation. During this foster period they would be covering all medical expenses until he's neutered and I've fully adopted him. This is where this establishment gets you, technically because he is a foster they still own him and have control over when he's going to be neutered not taking into account or CARING OR BEING HUMANE about any other animal even the ones that their puppies that they "care" soooo much for are in contact with EVERY DAY! When setting an appointment to neuter my new puppy I thought it'd be best to just spay my other dog as well so that I wouldn't have to worry about it moving forward. I asked to set up an appointment for both the new puppy and my older puppy for the same date and was blatantly ignored as we only set up an appointment for the new puppy. In my excitement I left with an appointment for 5 days later and because I do not own him as yet, I have yet to pay the $250 adoption fee. When I realized that my appointment for my current dog went ignored I called to reschedule to have both dogs taken care of on the same day. The Dr. Vet or whatever her job title is went on to tell me that they could not schedule an appointment for my current dog for another month and I thought that was fine and was willing to reschedule the appointment for both the new puppy and my older dog. The puppy is only 8 weeks old, you can neuter a dog whenever, 4 more weeks is not serious and if you do research its actually recommended to wait until 6 months...and I could not figure out why they were so adamant about him coming in on the day that was set until I realized that they only want to neuter him so that he can be fully adopted, I pay my $250, and they no longer have to pay for any medical expenses on his behalf, or worry about him at all. I tried to explain that they are extremely far from me and it would not only be helpful to reschedule but also more beneficial as I am willing to PAY to have my dog spayed with them but of course they didn't care. All they care about is getting that adoption fee and sticking you with a dog they clearly never cared about in the first place. When literally begging to reschedule all the Dr. Vet whatever her job title is lady was so heartless and said I can ONLY bring my dog to them to be neutered because "they still own him". There are so many small contingencies with adopting/ foster to adopt that they don't tell you about or try to work with because they are a greedy entity that is only concerned with getting their money and not covering puppies for longer than a week. The stupid thing is if she had a heart and thought outside of herself she would realize they'd bring in more money from me by waiting. When I informed her that her customer service is TERRIBLE she then started to ask more about my current dog and said because shes so small they cant work on her regardless. That is the poorest excuse I have EVER heard if any! NOW because YOU don't know how to be accommodating, she's "too small" to neuter?? She was fine last week when I originally asked! During the whole conversation she was very dismissive, talked in a "that's your problem" tone, and told me that to take my dog elsewhere, for an establishment with "humane" in the title they are the farthest from. Like I told Dr. Vet Lady, if I didn't already love my new puppy I'd return him because they are a NIGHTMARE to deal with. After reading further reviews I am starting to think this is a race thing as they'd probably be more accommodating to someone with a less ethnic name. I 100000% DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE !

The past January we had to let go of one of our family members - Mr. Cuddles. As hard as the time of transition was, the Baltimore Humane Society helped me and my family feel confident that Mr. Cuddles was resting in a place full of love for animals. Veronica, the Memorial Park Director, made us feel welcome and helped us pick out a perfect and sunny spot as a final resting place for our beloved pet. The cemetery is very well manicured and cared for and we couldn't imagine a better place for Mr. Cuddles, whom we love very much. I would highly recommend the Baltimore Humane Society to anyone who is looking to adopt an animal or is looking for a final resting place for their loved one.

This place is awesome the people were very friendly and nice with helping us adopt the dog that we wanted. We had a few hiccups with out application because our cats weren't up to date with shots and one not being spayed and they were able to get us in to their facility in two days to have everything updated so that we could adopt our dog which was very considerate of them and super helpful since we really wanted gaya and with their help we were able to have her. Lastly they were also much cheaper to go through to have the spay and shots done which was a big help because we weren't prepared for those bills but we were able to make them because of the savings. Thank you Baltimore Humane Society you and gaya are Awesome!!!

Last night I had to surrender my cat Cody. He has been in my life for twelve years. I tried my best not to cry but I couldn't help it. One of the staff there saw me. taking him in. She hugged me and told me that everything would be okay. Once inside the other staff hugged me and gave me some of the greatest encouragment. I know that they will love him and do their best to find him a home.❤️

When our first dog passed there was only one place we thought about to find another friend. The Baltimore Humane Society has a clean environment, the staff was knowledgeable and professional, and helped us make the right decision. No joke, the process was easy and the result is that the life they saved is not sleeping in our bed each night and sleeping peacefully about 18 hours a day. Thanks BHS for changing our dog's life and ours forever.Adam

I was going to adopt at least one dog, maybe two. Met them and they were great, no problems at all. I put in an app for them and after 3 days I get a call that my 30 year old son has to come meet the dog because he's skittish to men, which he never showed to me. I walked him around on a leash, played with him etc and we got along great. I told them I thought that was ridiculous and what if he can't, and the reply was that's their requirement, as well as we can't have anyone new at our house for two weeks until the dog acclimates.I've owned dogs, and cats, all my life and I'm 62, the reason I want one now is because my dog of 10 years, she was 13 and from another rescue center, passed away and I miss her badly. But I think the requirements they want today are totally ridiculous. Here I wanted to give one of them a home, a pit bull at that which no one wants to adopt, and they make you jump through hoops.I'm sorry they are so strict because all it hurts is the dog. I guess they have their reasons but I won't recommend this place to anyone.

The staff is rude, my husband an I went there yesterday to adopt a dog, a person called to talk to me about my application, I called back to speak with her, a women answered the phone was really nasty to me, pretty much hung up on me... so I drive all the way up there from Annapolis to see the dogs/cats asked another person about my application she looked at me like I had 2 heads, place is just god awful; will NEVER be back! So we went over to see the cats an when we walked in the kid at the desk was rude, we go over to look at the cats I asked 4 different people to open up the condo so I could interact with the cat, no one ever came, looked right at me and my husband an never even bothered with us! What a shame. I’ve never been in a I’ll mannered setting before, just made me so mad.

The BUS was very clean and cheerful. They had a large selection of healthly cats. The people were all very nice and helpful. I brought home mynew boy Boh today. He is a dream. I look forward to a long and loving relationship with him.

My wife sends me there to get the paint when she hires painters. Good paint. Use SW for all interior and exterior projects. Very uniform color from one can to the next.

Every member of the staffs were caring and knowledgible during our visit to find our new family member. A labrador retriever, he has bcome the love of our family. He runs like the wind and sniffs at each stick or leaf. A bit determined to run for a hour or two in our fenced backyard. He is very comfortable and mannerly. A lucky bond for all of us. Thank you very much.Dr Starling saw him , prescribed meds for limes disease and heartworm prevention. Also trazadone for the next visit. She is the daughter-in-law of a longer friend!

Easy to get to. Buildings are clearly marked. Decent parking. I had my kitten spayed and had no issues, easy drop off and easy pick-up.

I adopted my 2-yr. old puppy, "Astro," (prenamed) onJan.4, 2017. Everyone there was so friendly, helpful and nice. The adoption process went smoothly and quick. I have dealt with other shelters and have to let everyone know Baltimore County Humane Society in Reisterstown is the absolute best.

Baltimore Humane Society is a wonderful place! Staff were knowledgeable, professional and very helpful. They provide the tools for a successful adoption. We highly recommend this facility!

We had a great experience with Baltimore Humane Society. It is so organized and you get so much information for the pet you are adopting. They make it so easy and simple.

I would never go to another Humane Society other than this one in Baltimore County I've adopted three pets there who I have loved very dearly I started donations last year 50 brand new dog and cat blankets and several baskets full of toys for both cats and dogs my goal this year is to donate over 100 new blankets and donate over 100 toys I love this shelter it makes me feel good when I see how the volunteers take care of all the pets that are there I thank you very much for being such a great shelter Dory Kirk in Sykesville Maryland

An excellent shelter full of people passionate for creating better lives for animals in need.

My wife and I adopted our first dog Rigby from the Baltimore Humane Society 6yrs ago. We had looked at other shelters without any luck. Many other rescues gave us the impression we were "unfit" pet parents or too inexperienced to adopt a dog. The Baltimore Humane Society helped us choose the right dog for us and even offered training classes and a plenty of information. For these reasons, when we were looking to adopt another dog to add to our family we returned to BHS. We ended up adopting a very high energy Bluetick coonhound named Pongo. We took a chance on a dog that other families had turned down due to his high energy. With the guidance from the Humane society and experience training our other dog; Pongo, now know to us as Ringo, quickly became a permanent part of our family. We frequently recommend friends and family members looking to add a cat or dog to their family to local area shelters, especially the Baltimore Humane Society. Having 2 positive adoption experiences here and knowing that they are a no kill shelter is what really stands out to us. For any future pet adoptions BHS will be our first stop. We know that adopting a pet is a huge responsibility and for those that cannot adopt but are still pet lovers we highly recommend considering a donation either monetary or supplies that the shelter can use.ADOPT DON'T SHOP!

Was picking up pups from alteration surgery. This is a place of happiness and love. Clean, friendly and knowledgeable!
Dorothea Bowers
The young lady that helped me tried her best to help me find someone that would pick up the dog that was in need of help. However, their policy is, you have to be able to capture the dog. Sad

Poor customer service all around. Came to get a dog and fell in love with one but they did everything in their power to make it the most complicated and stressfull journey possible. It seems as if no one in the office works together there. Also the trainer decided to Harrassed not me but my girlfriend demanding he come over and train our new dog once we got him. Long story short dont go here.

Adopted our cat before New Years and it was such a positive experience. All the animals are well cared for by staff and volunteers. The facility is very clean. I didn't have to ask many questions as I was provided with all the answers before I could ask! This was my easiest adoption

We adopted a dog from Bmore Humane and had the best experience. The staff is knowledgeable and you can see the love for the animals. We will be back to walk the trails and continue to donate. They are they best and I highly recommend them for your adoption!

I adopted my dog from BHS and I have to say they are AMAZING!! They paired me with my new lovable pit-lab mix named Cobbler and she is wonderful. She has several health issues, but BHS was patient in teaching me how to care for her while also providing food and medical supplies and medication.

We adopted out cat Finley from BHS. We found the entire experience excellent from start to finish. We worked with Cyndi, and she helped us go through the process very smoothly. We would recommend anyone that is looking to give a pet their "forever home" start their search at BHS. They will love the pets and the humans making the adoptions possible, and pleasant
