What a historic cemetery. It starts with the burial place of Francis Scott Key many war veterans. The cemetery is very large and well marked. The grounds are immaculate. So everyone who visits needs to keep it that way. There is a large map at the entrance showing burial sites as well as a computer to find what or who you are looking for. There are also very clean restrooms and a small chapel. The property is privately owned and is a working cemetery, however, they make it welcome to all visitors. There is a cemetery office on site at the entrance in a Victorian home. This property, located in the city of Frederick is so quiet and peaceful. It is truly a historic gem of Frederick!

Amazing history, a little under cared for, but if you want to see history dating back to 1852, you should go here. It is truly a walk in history, more than a full days worth of walking to see all the pre 1930 head stones.

A great example of the old time garden style cemetery. Absolutely beautiful and just a prime example of a pristine picturesque property. Of course you can see the graves of Francis Scott Key, Barbara Fritchie and Thomas Johnson but there is also a throw back to the days before the constitution was the law of the land. The first president of the US under the articles of confederation is buried here and his wife, president and Mrs John Hanson. They have a sad story for sure and and very much worth a stop there to see them!

This historic cemetery is a good place to visit. Francis Scott Key is buried here and many of the headstones are more than a hundred years old. The Civil War graves are lined up along the back fence and when I realized how many there were, it took my breath away. This place is a history lesson.

The grave was right inside the gate and I found a little area to park in. The grave is a monument with a statue of Key on top. A billboard next to the grave had a button that plays the Star Spangled Banner.

Yes, I realize it's a big graveyard! The place is beautiful! Serene and very well kept! I walk through every day on my way to work! (Fastest route to work) I was skeptical about going through at first but I have much respect for all the souls and families that have their loved ones there and I wouldn't go any other way! I can feel the love every day emanating from Mt. Olivet!!

In my opinion that Mount Olive cemetery is the best. Just wish they would take care of the markers better. My daughter was buried in baby land 1990 and I don't have a tombstone yet but I found her name plate buried a foot down in the dirt other than that I like Mount Olive cemetery people are very friendly.

Beautiful cemetery, incredible history, not always maintained well, but a nice relaxing environment. Sadly if you want to see where the population of color was buried in Frederick, check out the Laboring Sons memorial park.

My grandmother was buried here and a headstone was paid for. It never went on her grave. We have now paid again 2 years ago and her headstone is still not on her grave. Everyone should know in their grief to keep records, or they will keep your money and not use it for your loved ones memory as they should.

Taphophiles rejoice!! This is one of the largest, most interesting and diverse cemeteries I have ever visited (and I see quite a few!) Gravestones as far as the eye can see, and historic to current-day graves are plentiful. Graves of some well-known and somewhat obscure historical figures may be found here....such as Francis Scott Key and family, and Barbara Fritchie. What a beautiful resting place.

Living out of town makes it hard to tend to a grave here. BUT, they do an exceptional job keeping my dad's site clean and neat. Best of all, Rick Reeder is always helpful about placing something there for us when requested. He provides amazing customer service for the loved ones of the one buried here!

I visited this cemetery in April, 2017 with my brother and his wife. We were doing the "family history" tour-traveling from California. Soon after we arrived at Mount Olivet a kind man (Chris Haugh) asked if he could help us find a particular grave site. We were looking for Mc Clintock Young. Chris knew exactly who we were talking about and led us directly to the grave site. He had written an article on Mc Clintock and his family and told us stories we hadn't known about! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and Chris's knowledge and enthusiasm. He even went above and beyond by showing us several places around town where our relative lived and his old factory-that we would have never found on our own! I can't say enough great things about Chris Haugh and our incredible visit to the Mount Olivet Cemetery. We visited many wonderful places on our trip and this is my top pick! Be sure to go there on your trip!
