The staff was wonderful! Brad Tucker was caring, attentive to details and comforting. My mother-in-law lived with my husband and me in Georgia. She has made pre-arrangements for her funeral years before when she lived in Danville. So everything we needed to handle was long distance, including flying her to Illinois. Sunset could not have been more helpful and kind. They made the very difficult situation bearable. Would give 100 stars if possible!

I used to work for a life insurance company and saw many MANY funeral bills. This place is extremely overpriced, does not charge consistently as they will price the exact same item differently depending upon how much life insurance there is. I always warned families to not tell Sunset how much life insurance there was until after they were quoted prices for the services. I saw them literally take ever single penny so many times. I also saw the exact same casket with the same lining and other options charged $1400 on one bill and $2300 on another and those bills were less than 2 weeks apart. I learned who had integrity and ethics and who didn't. The most honest was a funeral home owner that I actually didn't like as he could be a bit crass and inappropriate but he was very much about helping families. He would come to the office personally to deliver the death certificate and AFTER giving a quote to the family and if the life insurance wouldn't cover the bill he would slash the price of the quote until it did. He would never even ask me how much insurance there was, he would just ask if there was enough to cover $XXX. He has since passed so I won't mention any names but I'm sure a few know who I'm talking about. He's one of the few who never sold out Sunset. Shop around folks.

My family started doing business with Sunset in July of 1994 when my mother passed away. We turned to them again in October of 2007 when my Dad passed. We were so impressed by their dedication and caring attitude towards our family and especially the children who lost their Papa Ray. My husband and I went to Sunset for prearrangement plans. In September, I lost my husband after a brief illness. The staff has been wonderful at a time when I couldn’t think straight due to the shock of a great loss.

Sunset Funeral Home - You have a high standard and my family and I appreciate the terrific service you provide. JR worked so well with us to arrange my mom's graveside service, and he just made things easier. The care & follow-up after losing a loved one is also very appreciated.The cemetery grounds are so well taken care of and look beautiful all summer long. Sometimes I come out to walk the cemetery grounds on my lunch break. The flowers and grounds look beautiful, and the fact that the pavement is level to walk on without pots holes or unlevel concrete, that's a plus. Your quality & care shines in everything I've seen.

I can’t say enough about how blessed my family and I were to have such caring friends at Sunset to help us with the loss of my father. We traveled from Colorado and they assisted us every step of the way with the highest levels of professionalism and care. I’ve known the Darby family my whole life and we are lucky to have them. They are such an asset to our community for such a variety of reasons! I also can not say enough good things about Sunset Funeral Home. They took such excellent care of my Dad when we lost him. Not only did they honor my Dad’s last wishes but they truly catered to my entire family. They paid attention to every possible detail regarding our farewell. They provided so much compassion and care during that delicate time and even in the months that followed. Horrible experience my mother's funeral was hijacked by attorney Dan Brown and your staff did nothing to protect the dignity of the services I have contacted your lawyer since you will not cooperate and I will be filing a multi-million dollar suit against the Darby family and it's corporation.As a funeral home and a funeral provider you should be held to certain standards and ethical minimums you failed to protect their services and you failed me and my family when we requested your services to help us from the damage created by your failure as professionals. I'm ashamed of Rich Darby and I'm ashamed of Tammy Hopper.In addition I'm filing complaints against you with the Indiana and Illinois funeral directors association for review review of your license.Your conduct as a funeral home is unconscionable.

Sunset Funeral Home exceeds and crosses high above the bar of "Excellence!" From the moment a grieving family contacts them, through the final service, they are compassionate, kind and very considerate of every emotion and request to help the grieving family create a memorable "celebration of life" for their loved ones. They handled my Fathers services, and many friends and relatives over the years and have always offered 5 star services from the heart. Upon entering the funeral home for visitations of friends and families, you are greeted with open doors, a smile, offer to take your coat and empathy. They are the best!!!In addition to their fine services, they are stellar in supporting the communities in special causes in every town they are located.On a scale of 1-5..... I hate that I am writing a review for a funeral home but it’s my reality. Mina was in charge of my mother’s care and helped us through the process. She was so kind since day 1. She was patient and helped us through all the impossible. She never left our side and answered text all hours. I can’t thank her enough for all the work she put into my Mom having the best service. This week we lost my father, and our services were at Sunset in Westville. That afternoon we met with Jeremy Hall, and he was outstanding. While I had not personally been through planning a service, and was very apprehensive, he made the entire process very simple. Jeremy offered suggestions where needed, let us ask questions and explained the differences in things, and made sure dad's obituary was complete and posted in time to make the paper. I have had the pleasure of knowing the Darby family for many years, and Jeremy was a great representative of them and their business. Simply put, Jeremy walked us through the entire process, was there from start to end and then some. I would highly recommend not only Sunset, but Jeremy Hall as well. I highly recommend Sunset Funeral Home. I have had dealings with them as a client and as a visitor there for services. As a client they were caring, professional, and easy to work with in a devastating time. We received a Christmas ornament as a memorial for our Grandmother very unexpectedly and at no charge. I’d say they go above and beyond other places I had to use. As a visitor I was at a rather large visitation and thankfully they are very up to date, as we were in line for quite some time but they have tv screens up in all the rooms our line wove through. They had taken photos from the family and placed them on the screens to view while waiting, A good bunch of photos too! The building is quite classy I’d say. Very clean and well kept more stylish than most funeral homes in an old creepy house that you don’t know where you are allowed to go and what is off limits to the public or the grieving family, I always hated that. Since it’s spacious there isn’t that stuffy packed in feeling. With COVID now our reality the space you have is appreciated. You can’t go wrong with them. I also see they are very community involved.

When my father passed away, my family could not function. Sunset did EVERYTHING for us during that difficult time. They gave us a fabulous room for a wake/mini service. I drove from Texas for the funeral of my uncle, I was mortified when the funeral director greeted me, the smell of booze his breath was overwhelming. He was obviously drunk, because he kept staggering around. the funeral home. Finally someone came out, and escorted him away. What kind of respect does this show for people in their time of morning. At the family gathering we spoke about this dis-respect, and all my family will be using another funeral home from now on.

I highly recommend Sunset Funeral Home. I have had dealings with them as a client and as a visitor there for services. As a client they were caring, professional, and easy to work with in a devastating time. We received a Christmas ornament as a memorial for our Grandmother very unexpectedly and at no charge. I’d say they go above and beyond other places I had to use. As a visitor I was at a rather large visitation and thankfully they are very up to date, as we were in line for quite some time but they have tv screens up in all the rooms our line wove through. They had taken photos from the family and placed them on the screens to view while waiting, A good bunch of photos too! The building is quite classy I’d say. Very clean and well kept more stylish than most funeral homes in an old creepy house that you don’t know where you are allowed to go and what is off limits to the public or the grieving family, I always hated that. Since it’s spacious there isn’t that stuffy packed in feeling. With COVID now our reality the space you have is appreciated. You can’t go wrong with them. I also see they are very community involved.

Not only did they take care of everything for me, but made sure it was consistent with what I could afford. Personalized service, with text and email communication directly with my director (Jeremy) throughout the process. Cannot recommend more.

When my father passed away, my family could not function. Sunset did EVERYTHING for us during that difficult time. They gave us a fabulous room for a wake/mini service. They were so accommodating and helpful especially with the Death Certificates and details. I cannot see how our experience could have been any better. Thank you Scott and everyone at Sunset. A+

We've known the Darby family for years and have trusted them at the hardest times of our lives as we lost my grandparents, my Dad and so many more people we love. You will never find a family more dedicated to what they do (which extends to their staff who are like family). They walked us through, step by step, when we weren't sure where to even begin. And when we had concerns, they sat down with us and listened well. Thanks for all you do!

Sunset Funeral Home was so kind to me when burying a dear friend. He did not have family close and many details had to be handled by phone. Their compassion and concern for every little detail made it possible to celebrate his life with all of the friends that he had in this community at the VA Medical Center. But to go through your loved ones final services with such a great team of professionals does make it a bit easier. No matter how strange a request, or how last minute, or what time it was, Justin came through. My family and I attended the visitation of our departed mother, and during the visitation, a rat crawled out of the casket, several people saw this, and one of the guests actually fainted. This is a horrible funeral home, they come across classy, but omg, to have a rat coming out of the casket. Unreal.

Went to pick up my wife's ashes, and was told they lost them, how can you loose someone's ashes. They finally found her ashes after a week, go somewhere else that knows what they are doing, and treats your deceased with respect.

He is amazing compassionate and helped me through every step I dont know what I would of done without him. I thank you more than words can say. Always treated me and my loved ones as your very own. I drove from Texas for the funeral of my uncle, I was mortified when the funeral director greeted me, the smell of booze his breath was overwhelming. He was obviously drunk, because he kept staggering around. the funeral home. Finally someone came out, and escorted him away. What kind of respect does this show for people in their time of morning. At the family gathering we spoke about this dis-respect, and all my family will be using another funeral home from now on.
